Ok so always one to follow the popular vote I've just listened to the soundtrack and I've just put it on again... this is totally up my catchy street! When it transfers (assuming it will!) would Ben Platt not transfer with it ala Idina/Wicked and Andrew Rannels/BoM?! Andrew Rannels didn't transfer to London did he? I can't see Ben Platt transferring over of the show does come to London.. Evan Hansen has really raised his profile and there will be many job offers coming his way when he finishes on Broadway Thanks to you & 49thand8th, was getting my Elder Prices confused... I've corrected my original quote as it's not quite as relevant now!

How huge is huge? I saw it in December and can't recall the cast being unusually big. I think it could have more appeal than DEH. The one with most appeal is Groundhog Day, and that has its publicity work made for it in London already. 37 according to the website. Remember there are people up in the mezzanine at many times too. vs 18 for Come from Away (includes 6 standbys), 13 for Evan Hansen (includes 5 standbys) and 24 for Groundhog Day. 5 or 6 Standbys? ? Wicked are missing a trick not having a Standby for the Midwife! *sorry I couldn't resist!

Yeah I agree, I now go for the show which I love. I plan my trips around catching different witches as each actress (regardless of personal opinion) bring something different, and I like seeing the interpretations.
I would have loved to catch Willemijn for an additional show before cast change to see her on a "normal" show but don't think I can squeeze it in.

We seem to have moved away from noting when understudies etc are on... but if anyone is interested then Carina is in the bubble all week as Glinda as Suzie is on holiday!

In interviews with Susan Hilferty she's been known to say that each of the Act II dresses are personalised to the actress, each is different but along the broad theme set out when she designed the theme.

I know nothing of her voice of acting so cannot comment but just have a negative perception of her due to social media storms she seems to get involved in!

So reckon we can expect some Alex Grierson/2nd understudy shows after cast change... Alice being bumped up willlikely mean that the Standby and/or 1st understudy won't be rehearsed so will Alex go on rather than them having an emergency Standby on Standby?! Unless they'll need an emergency Standby standing by as a couple of the swings are leaving so they could be short for a few weeks while new swings get up to speed?! Alex Rosa Claudia etc will get a scheduled show each anyway I think you missed the point... I meant in the first few weeks. If Alice calls out it's unlikely that both Standby and 1st understudy will have had their put-in. Depending on whether Alex is needed to Swing then it maybe an emergency Standby being brought back to go on for the green girl.

It's been like 8 years since brand new Elphaba . Guess Elphaba is just too big a role to risk with a newbie. Ah but come on... Alice has literally been there 10 months when she takes over as lead and at the moment has done about 50 shows. That's hardly recycling...

I'm really pleased overall and I'm sticking by my comment a few pages ago... if Alice had been announced as the new lead rather than Standby first of all, no one would be complaining - apart from Alice & Bradley it's a brand new fresh cast!
And Bradley is easily one of my favourite Fieyro's... what. a. voice.

I'm sure she has demonstrated she has in auditions. I doubt the producers are just hoping for the best! 😂 Anyone can imitate but not everyone is naturally funny. She's Welsh of course she's funny! We welshies are a hoot!

Well I've still not seen Ms Fearn so plenty to keep me going, plus a new Standby Elphie and it looks like Jessamy is leaving too so another green person to try to catch too!

Out of interest - when is cast change? I don't recall seeing a date. 30th July is rumoured to be Jen & Kara's last show on Broadway and 22nd July is Willemijn & Suzie's last show in London.

Oooo just looked her up - 1st National tour Standby 2010-2012 so a long break from the show!
Nice new cast announcement though - not just a recycle of someone fro the tour! Let's hope there's a trend starting.....

Ah yes... now in reality that is much more likely to be causing a delay here in London. The Creatives back in America will be looking at Elphie's for all three productions as well as possibly having one eye on the next UK tour (in reality rehearsals start end of October!). I reckon it'll be about mid September as apparently they're opening in Zurich rather than the International Tour cast doing it! I've heard the same too but rehearsals are usually just 30 days therefore assumed end of Oct/early Nov. But yes either way, they'll be having consideration of the new tour I bet when casting now as they'll be hearing actresses for the main productions now so makes sense to pretty must cast the new leads now!

A lot of us are critiquing the lazy casting to just bump-up the Standby but I do try to be objective when someone has a differing opinion to me... so trying to see this from the other side...
1) What if Alice had been announced as lead in September rather than Standby? We'd all be hailing this as great casting having a fresh new lead.
2) Elphaba is a huge role that producers must be wary of casting with relatively unknown actresses. There is a definite lean in Wicked to promoting talent from within - Jen D, Jackie, Ashleigh, NDJ and Suzie to name but a few who have come through the ranks from ensemble/swing/u/s/Standby and proven themselves. Jen D and Suzie have a particular following and supporter groups that show how popular they are with fans.
If it's Alice I'll be there to see her as I've not caught a show yet, and a new lead means a new Standby. I'm thinking about point 1 above and being positive!
