Ill see most of those: theyve got my trust after how good theyve been over the last 2 years, esp with the cheap pillar tickets. I dont feel the need to renew membership though, nothing there seems massively likely to sell quickly.

Not sure why he's doing an 'old man shouts at cloud' about it They are available for people who want them. Some themes are traumatic for people, nothing wrong with some consideration Hope no one asks him about intimacy co-ordinators next But they're not clouds. They are there as a result of decisions made by organisations. How many people who might be traumatised by violence on stage are going to see Macbeth or King Lear unaware of what it involves? Can't people who have had traumatic experiences be expected to know what they are going to see at the theatre? Can't the rest of us be left to discover what the play involves (murder, incest, suicide, blinding) as it happens rather than as we enter the theatre? They are in a separate section of the website for the most part, or occasionally on a sign posted which you can decide not to read They are only there if you want to read it. No one is forcing trigger warnings on you.

sohotheatre.com/events/paul-currie-shtoom/This guy. Apparently a couple wwere annoyed at him bringing a Palestinian flag on stage so he told them to f×ck off. I dont know the veracity of this as I wasn't there and haven't seen any footage though.

I thought this was fantastic. Funny and well acted, with a political undertone

I can already tell that this will be silly money. Brilliant casting to get young people to the theatre, though ironically about 90% of young people will be immediately priced out. It's all well and good saying there are 10,000 cheap tickets, in my experience you can never get them! Tbf he does better than most. I imagine they'll be a todaytix lottery as well

The Jamie Lloyd Company also continues its commitment to accessibility, offering 10,000 tickets priced at £25 and under, with 5,000 of these exclusively for under 30s, key workers and those receiving government benefits" I love that they do this!

Say what you like about Jamie Lloyd, he attracts the Hollywood names like no-one else. I don’t always love his minimalist reworkings but I have to admire his ability to get the public excited about seeing titles that would often be dismissed as highbrow and boring. Yeah, im guessing hes the one persuading the talent to get on board

In addition to the successful productions mentioned by Dave B (and I absolutely loved that Death of a Salesman), Twelfth Night was good and The Second Woman was a remarkable piece of event theatre. There have been some mistteps - I don't know why Further from the Furthest Thing was scheduled and Mandela, which on paper probably looked like a surefire hit, didn't work. With (I think) 41% of performances cancelled, that must have cost them a fortune. Howeer, as just an audience member with absolutely no insider knowledge, I think he's done a pretty good job at what must be an incredibly hard time to be an AD. Mandela had a major cast member suffer a stroke backstage didn't they? They cancelled loads of performances cos of other illness. That one is understandable.

Another iconic disabled character is Dr Strangelove - Steve Coogan and Armando Iannucci better start writing their justification essays now, unless they intend casting a disabled actor in the lead of their musical. I dont think there is any indication Strangelove will be in a wheelchair for the new play. though i reserve the right to have a go if he is! Id say his disability in the film isn't really as inherently a part of the character and the themes of the film as Richard the Third's disability is for the plot of his story ( as the play is written). The character of Strangelove is a minor character as well in terms of screen time

Over here in the real world a charge of “unsafe working conditions” is very serious and it should have been reported to the Health and Safety Executive. But of course it wasn’t, I assume ? Maybe they have? I don't know From the sounds of this, they have had complaints though

Globe response. Seems reasonable to me. Won't be playing Richard as disabled

I have huge sympathy for their position but it is predicated on one interpretation of the script and character. And on the idea that an actor must have lived experience of a particular characteristic in order to portray it on stage or screen. Whilst I often much prefer to see gay actors play gay characters, I would never seek to insist on that. Acting is not being. And it never should be. I do not view having any physical disability to be a qualification to play Richard III. There isn't an actor alive today who can truly know what living with a severe form of scoliosis in 15th century Britain would have been like for a man born into the nobility. We do, however, know that the historical Richard was a formidable warrior. We know that the historical image of him was created by Tudor propagandists and amplified by Shakespeare. There is certainly a view that says physical disability is an integral part of the play. There are absolutely other perspectives on the character that can be theatrically interesting to explore. There is space for both approaches (and many more) But at heart of this is the fact that acting is acting. I agree with that in a perfect world, i wish it could be the case But i think the problem they feel is that they are locked out of so many able bodied roles, that to see one role with a disability in it also is excluded to them

I'm guessing illness is the reason and because the Dorfman doesn't have understudies means cancellation was likely. I'm new to this, does that specific theatre not use understudies at all? Why? Quite a few small theatre's dont ( Young vic, Donmar, Almedia). Too expensive, though they can rehearse someone up as a replacement if needs be

It's not a first season - It's actually the final season which Tim Sheader has programmed even though he's no longer Artistic Director. Drew McOnie is responsible for programming the 2025 season and beyond. I seem to be alone in thinking it's not a bad season at all. A Shakespeare, a new dramatisation of a classic English novel (they've a long tradition of doing those) and a timely revival of a Broadway musical directed by someone who's worked on two of the most exciting recent musical revivals. Also kudos to them for looking at the pricing structure and making over 33,000 tickets available at £15, and all Monday tickets at £15, £25 and £35. With that pricing, ill have a look at Fiddler. Ive seen 12th Night too many times, so will give that a miss. Secret Garden doesnt sound great, but may revisit it if reviews are good
