So pleased to hear it went well. With Mean Girls Opening next year i guess this would be a 2025 debut if successful. Could do a Manchester run next Autumn like BTTF
Is that too quick? Just really want to see it now

Thanks for your review yesterday Steve . I had a ticket for last night's performance and was in two minds whether to go or not as I wasn't really in the mood yesterday, but you convinced me with your review and I'm so glad I went, I really enjoyed it! The cast were all fantastic, Jamie and Lucie were really great in the two leads. Caleb Roberts and Alex Stoll also both very funny. The workshop got a great reception, and I actually think the songs that featured the 'child' cast got most of the best receptions, a brilliant young company, both in acting and vocals. I can't put my finger on why, but I feel like if I was going to compare it to another film to stage adaption, for some reason it feels most similar to Groundhog Day to me. Haven't seen the film since it was at the cinema in 2004 but I don't think any knowledge of the film is really needed. Definitely hoping it continues to grow and ends up with a full run somewhere. A really enjoyable evening.

Saw this tonight and it was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed it! I think the first act was stronger than the second, but it's still in a great shape overall. The Alex character was absolutely hilarious, the kids were brilliant, and the leads' singing was faultless. The songs were excellent too, very catchy (I have one in my head as I speak), if sometimes a bit repetitive (like the flying one). Some really touching scenes too.
Just some things I would improve:
- Matt's character is a bit too moody/bitter for my liking, in the film he was obviously a little bitter about losing Jenna as a friend and never speaking to him again, but in the musical he seems a bit too hung up about it. And he makes a strange comment about it being on brand for Jenna to be dating a hockey player. What's wrong with her dating a hockey player and why does he need to comment on it in a judgy way like that? Film Matt didn't comment (although he might have been thinking, 'Wow Jenna this guy's an idiot'). - The love songs are kind of cliché, there's one about fireworks and another where they repeatedly sing 'Why can't I fly". They were nice enough don't get me wrong, but they just felt a bit shallow. I would prefer them to be talking about their relationship a bit more, the flying thing doesn't really have any link, except maybe them being on a swing at the time I guess? Maybe it would work better on stage in that case. - I'm confused about why Matt had flowers when he was planning on going to see Jenna, are we meant to assume he was intending on leaving Wendy for her? Because he ends up marrying Wendy anyway and is gutted by what Lucy told him (unlike in the film where he tells Jenna it doesn't matter what Lucy said as he doesn't trust her anyway). - Make the Thriller scene longer! Complete with Richard leading at the front like he does in the film (I know I keep comparing it to the film, it's just hard because I know it so well). Richard was also not as funny as he could have been, his lines could be snappier. - Once Jenna had her realisation, I feel like she sang about the same thing multiple times in different songs. - I know it's not that deep, but Peaked in High School felt a bit unnecessarily mean-spirited for a show that otherwise has a great message. Like, Kyle Grandy should really only feature for a brief scene and not have a whole song dedicated to mocking him.
