What happened to the rumoured transfer? I thought it was rumoured for the Picadilly, they even had open auditioned. Must've been ditched half way thoguh

Actually, I'm really happy to see Jeremy Jordan and Kara Lindsay return, as I find that both Joey Barreiro and Morgan Keene are the only weak link in the current touring cast. Very much preferred their predecessors Dan DeLuca and Stephanie Styles - let alone Corey Cott and Liana Hunt on Broadway who were even stronger. Plus I've never seen these two in Newsies, apart from video snippets on Youtube.
The rest of the touring cast are really fab - the ensemble is really strong -, and the touring production is almost identical to the Broadway production, apart from a few minor word changes and the addition of a new song - Letter from the Refuge - for Crutchie early in the second act after King of New York.

I think the transfer deal must have fallen through. Disney's now concentrating on Aladdin and Broadway's Frozen. I think this is the closest we are to getting to see Newsies unless we fly over to the States sometime when there is another US tour. Personally, I'm really excited to finally see this even if it is just on screen. I love the cast recording and the fact Jeremy and Kara are both confirmed is a bonus!

It's a cinema screening early next year. Not sure if it will be screened in the UK. Most of the other original cast have been announced as being part of it now too.
I hope it is screened in the UK as I've been wanting to see Newsies for ages and just so excited about the show. In some ways i'd be a bit relieved if it didn't show in the UK though as with these kinds of situations the reality can be a bit of a disappointment and i wouldn't like that to happen.

Jeez this was bad in NYC. American rubbish. And the dancing everyone goes on about was just a lot of camp chorus boy leaping around. Plus the plot and score are so boring. I do not understand why people like it so much!

I think he has mistaken this thread for the Sondheim thread.

So there is now an ad out there for the cinema screening.
Does anyone know if this is going to be released on DVD/BluRay like Miss Saigon. Would LOVE to see this - mainly for Seize The Day and for the amazingly talented Jeremy Jordan!

Musical and camp! That's not two words you hear in the same sentence often.

Is there a list out there if the cinemas it will be shown at? Would like to go to this purely for Alan Menken's involvement.

It's shown in the U.K. and Germany on the 19th February, exact cinemas are to be announced: www.artsalliance.com/event/newsies-the-broadway-musical/I do hope for a Bluray release - and also a new cast recording.

Don't get me wrong I'll definitely go and see this (I only saw the show at The Papermill) but am I alone in preferring the original movie (with the exception of Once and For All) to the show? I thought Carrying The Banner was butchered and the new Jack backstory pretty uninspired. I'll even take Christian Bale's interesting take on singing over the overblown reworked show-stopping (?) Sante Fe. Maybe. The Meda songs though..maybe not.

Ah, wait till you start shaving, Michael! Then you'll appreciate Sondheim. I don't want to get into this discussion again, so it's just a "when hell freezes over" from me.

Still no cinemas listed on their website, but my local cinema is already selling tickets, so I just bought me one as an early christmas gift. Unfortunately, it's shown with (German, I suppose) subtitles, which I hate, but what can you do? The subtitles from the Billy Elliot screening were horrible - time delayed and very badly translated and quite big so they were somewhat distracting.
Fingers crossed they'll also be eventually releasing a CD and Bluray.

Cheers! Should've clarified I was after central London as Kingston and Turnbridge Wells are too far for me Save

Really annoyed as I've booked tickets for the WOS Awards, which is the same day, so wanted a central London showing of Newsies, but Vue's showings are too late so they clash (at least according to the times they currently give).

There was a great programme in Sky Arts last night called Backstage with Disney that included a segment about Newsies including an interview with Jeremy Jordan.

Does anyone know if the plan is to release this on DVD/Blu-ray after the cinema showing?
Was hoping to see it at the cinema, but doesn't seem to be on anywhere where I live (Brighton)!
