I was wondering, as Judi Dench was originally supposed to play the part of Grizabella, has her version of Memory ever been recorded? I might be wrong, but I don't think Memory was written until after Elaine Paige joined the cast. I know that it went through constant rewrites during previews.

Yes, in the recent documentary about Cameron Mackintosh they said that because Judi was considered an “actress who sang” and Elaine was considered a “singer who could act”, she asked they write a big number for Grizabella once she stepped into the part.

I believe her exact words were, "well, what's her song like, darling?"

Celine Dion could be a great Grizabella in my opinion. A little bit older and bigger star. But doesn't Grizabella go off to die on the old tyre? It wouldn't work, Celine's heart will just go on. Or perhaps it was just me that lost the will to live by the end.
If you hadn't already, you will have by the time Céline has finished with it:

Lol poor old Judi “she’s not SUPPOSED to have a good voice” Dench wouldn’t have touched it with a barge pole. She was down with a snapped tendon at the first sight of those leg warmers.

That was...interesting...undersung the big notes and created some new ones of her own...interesting! What a racket!

And I am normally a Celinophile. Bring on that iceberg quickly. But curiously I did find myself laughing quite uncontrollably during that: trauma has unpredictable ways of manifesting itself.

Idris Elba tapped to be playing the role of Macavity.

Well to be honest there have been times when I've considered tapping Idris Elba too.

So, does Macavity sing the song Macavity, now? Will Macavity be given any lines? Or is Mr. Elba just going to come on, look threatening, and leave? What would Luther do?

Will this prove controversial?

Oh wow! I really like this idea actually, she's a name, she can sing, age appropriate, has connection to the show, I love they are changing things up with this one!
Will it be controversial, nope, not at all. A female being the head of the tribe! It's so relevant right now!

Corden just seems perfect for either Skimbleshanks or Bustopher Jones.

I'll be curious who they get for Rum Tum Tugger. I could see Corden as Mungo Jerry.

They should have given Dame Judi the role of Grizabella to make up for missing out on it the first time.

They should have given Dame Judi the role of Grizabella to make up for missing out on it the first time. You can imagine that going down a storm with EP (who, incidentally, is gonna be FUMING if she doesn't at least get a cameo in this...)!

I have a morbid curiosity about this but please do no cast Elaine Paige.

She could have a cameo. She could pop out of one of the dustbins like Oscar the Grouch from 'Sesame Street' giving her giggle. Perhaps during 'Memory', right before Grizabella sings "Toooooooouch meeeeeee".

“Old Deuteronomy’s buried nine wives, And more, I am tempted to say ninty-nine”
And you thought James Bond was the “player”

“Old Deuteronomy’s buried nine wives, And more, I am tempted to say ninety-nine” And nobody's investigated. He must be real chummy with someone high up in the local police force.

Francesca Hayward cast as Victoria; now a major role in the film according to an executive and the one to sing Andrew Lloyd Webber's new song for the film. It makes sense, given the amount she dances in the show, that you would get a ballet dancer to play the role. I suspect the same will be done for the male lead dancer Mistoffolees.
