I thought the old chap was quite good at joking with Noel and was a bit more entertaining than some of the others. Still can’t believe throwing down a couple of broken tarts in the technical can keep someone in when they didn’t have a stellar showstopper.
Mostly I hate all the tears and fake drama. It’s not a lovely must watch anymore.

This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill.
Russell Tovey is on Extra Slice.

What a bizarre theme week. Didn't make any sense. Don't think the elimination was right.
And no one deserved star baker

The SECOND they showed them saying "I should be safe" you just knew they were going home.

In other competitive cooking shows, you can usually make a fairly educated guess as to who's going home that night based on how much footage there is of them. "Oh, Nathan's struggling today, and we've seen a LOT of him this episode, I guess his time is up". Something about the last couple of weeks of eliminations (this week's were a travesty) makes me think the producers are trying to subvert that trope, but in trying to make it less predictable who's going home based on how much we've seen of them, we're now in a space where the elimination decisions seem to come out of nowhere. There has to be a middle ground; I get you don't want to make it obvious, but at the moment it just looks unwarranted. We should at least be able to reply with "yes, that's fair" when they announce who's going home, rather than a rousing "are you KIDDING but [other person] did SO MUCH WORSE, what an insane decision!".

They are sweet. To me they look like teenagers and it seems like a Blue Peter programme. I agree last night's elimination was bizarre. Unlike Striclty, this kind of subjective judging always looks devious at some point. Why not give points? If they put the technical in order this suggesting points, my not point the rest?

My money is on david for the win he has never had star baker but has been consistanly good throughout! I often find bake off extra slice far much more of an entertaining watch.

I’m going to plump for Steph to win.

I’m going to plump for Steph to win. If it were done with proper scoring , then obvs she has scored most so far. If done show by show then she would have to score most points in the final. It would be fairer as this would really make her a worthy winner if she did. But would also provide excitement. But I suppose the points system would cause other problems.

Going back a few years, Richard was star baker 5 times during the series - and still didn't win

Henry did not deserve star baker for that cake. There were huge gaps between the pieces, it looked a mess. But I suppose they’re keen on him staying in for some reason so his ability has to be talked up.
Rather a lot of “buns” jokes made the edit didn’t they, plus a couple of shots of the boys backsides. I don’t care, I’m all for a bun gag but I wonder if the same would have happened with a bap challenge. Close up on Pru’s cleavage anyone?
Mary Berry is better off out of this.

You're being too harsh on Henry. Funniest person on telly at the moment

Henry is hilarious. Has a great personality that could be used to his advantage afterwards. We have not really had a baker that you truly remember since Nadia. All the rest have been quite forgettable. Plus he dresses up to bake.

It was a weak week from many of them. Rosie didn't deserve 2nd in the technical. They should have saved the double elimination for now - as too many of them fell short.

No he was sweet and quite amusing. Sad to see him go. Hopefully David will make something amazing and win the whole thing but I think it will be Steff.

Steff winning would be so boring
I can only think that her food tastes amazing - as it is often quite pedestrian in terms of ambition/originality
I can't imagine buying her cookbook - but David at least offers something different each time.

Most of the winners are pretty boring though, aren't they? Nadiya, John and Candice were the only memorable ones really. I suspect it'll be Steff.
And Henry was adorable. Loved him.

Recently watched the Nadiya series on UK Cooking Gold or some other satellite channel. I'm not so sure Nadiya was a personality going through the rounds. She was very timid and could have been voted out a couple of times. Definitely blossomed as a winner.
