This is a moving play but felt very dated in the last tour a few years ago. I wonder if it will be updated at all.

I recently rewatched the Poliakoff Perfect Strangers, and I thought they worked really well together. I'm definitely intrigued by this one, although I know nothing at all about the play.

Toby Stephens is too featherweight for a role acted for keeps by Jim Dale and Eddie Izzard. For one thing, he's not funny.

He can be funny. Amazing play, memorable. Saw it way back I think before I had kids. I should check the dates. Not sure I can face it again.

No was wrong. I must have seen the 2001 production with Victoria Hamilton. So nineteen years ago.

I hope Peter Nichols is coming back into fashion, there are a few of his plays I’d like to see or see again. Passion Play for example - possibly it would seem dated but not sure. Pity the NT aren’t interested in investigating the minor plays of major British playwrights.

Ouf. Those prices are no yoke. The last two things I've seen in Trafalgar 1 have been via flash sales on Todaytix. I think it was something like £15 for decent seats. So I'll be waiting for that- putting all my eggs in one basket.

The Izzard/Hamilton production was wonderful. Although slightly scary it was 18 years ago!

Elanor - how did you watch Perfect Strangers? Have you got it on DVD as I'd love to get hold of a copy. I'm a great fan of Poliakoff's earlier works but so many have now been deleted around 2014.

Or it can be watched, but not owned, on BBC iPlayer.

It's temporarily on iplayer! I loved it at the time, and had a video version which wore out. It's beautiful.

I too have the recording on video but unfortunately no longer have a working video machine! Will have to pay to get it transferred to DVD which might prove rather expensive as there are 5 episodes originally ! I can get a copy for £20.99 via Amazon I believe!! Thanks for the info anyway as I cannot access iplayer without a computer.

I am seeing this on the 28th September and just wondering if I'm going to be able to get the train home after the evening performance... does anyone have any idea of the running time? There is no info on the website as yet. Thanks.

Fleance how far are you travelling from and are you using the underground as well as main line travel? I'm still waiting to hear the names of the rest of the cast!

It was stanne, whom I was quoting, who seems to have an issue with travel. Casting so far sounds impressive: Toby Stephens, Claire Skinner, Patricia Hodge.

Enjoyed this. First time I'd seen the play. It's very much "of it's time" in the way the characters talk about and treat the disabled child, gasps from the audience at some of this, but it does reflect contemporary thinking and attitudes. And also of course reflects Peter Nicholls' own experience. One thing that didn't quite ring true is that a couple of times the term "spastic" is used and the reading of the line treats it as an insult, but it was seen as a neutral descriptive term at that point. A big difference between this production and previous ones is that the actor who plays Joe is a woman with a disability (Storme Toolis) - interview with her and the director here. First time this has been done, in the UK at least. Very good move I think. Running time 2 hours 30.

In doubts of seeing during a very short weekend break, but only due to the prices.. Trafalgar used to run a cheap ticket scheme (15 quid per ticket to buy one-two weeks in advance), but I can’t see that it’s been available for this production.. anyone here can consult maybe? Thanks!

It's included in the TodayTix £25 offer, but the seats offered are at the back. Since it's not selling too well I'm holding on for now. There have previously been £15 flash sales on Trafalgar 1 plays but no way of predicting. I know it's frustrating when you're trying to plan on specific dates.

Yes, TodayTix often does rush tickets for the Trafalgar too
I sat near the back in row P, view was fine although the seats are very narrow, more so than those further forward I think
Stage is quite high for this - most of the action takes place on a living room set which is on a raised platform - so first couple of rows might not be great for this one.

Today T £25 promotion is on until 7th Oct so there won't be £15 tickets sooner. I am also waiting for those
For education education I got £15 tickets front row and stage was high but not unbearably. Is stage higher for Joe Egg?
