Remember the Granada Studios Tour?

Great memories...Was the giants room,the Borrowers or Mini-pins or summat similar?Remember being shocked that Corrie St itself was just frontages.Had two of my Drama students as extras in the show and went with them as chaperones.Bill Tarmey,Liz Dawn and Johnny Briggs were really friendly and welcoming to them and as young actors they were really star-struck.I also did a problem-page show with my students called Dear Davina with a very young Davina McCall and other events.If memory serves,the wonderful Liz Dawn had a pub called The Grapes (I think) near the studio with her daughter.

Really enjoyed having a look around both sets on the tour. A really great day out. I haven’t done the new Corrie tour yet. Definitely something to do this summer.

I remember going there for my 40th birthday. Night in Blackpool and Granada Tour on the way back. There were also a couple of theme park ride things as part of the tour.
At the end you were taken into a room which had a 360 degree film show with highlights from corrie and at the end the door slid open and you entered the street. As a big fan I was in my element. I believe in those days they didn't film in the street every day so could open the street to the public and there was usually a cast member there to do a kind of meet and greet.
I also went a few years ago when they reopened the street to the public as they now film in the new studios on Salford Quays. The street was much bigger this time with some of the side streets.
I remember buying a mug the first time that played the theme tune when you picked it up. The spooky thing was that it would play the tune at random times even when not picked up. Think it was the ghost of Martha Longhurst.

I lived in Manchester for most of 1981-97 and family members used to come and stay with me specifically to visit the Granada Studios Tour. So I went there more times than was sensible. Funnily enough I also lived in Birmingham for a couple of years which was also a popular move for friends and family who wanted to visit Cadbury World!

I loved the studio tour, Mum and I met Ken Barlow.

I vaguely remember them having student Halloween parties on the Street, would have been late 90s I guess.

Manchester Pride used the Coronation St set for its Treat On The Street party for several years.

I too have very fond memories of this. I went in 1998 and enjoyed all the other bits - 10 Downing Street, House of Commons, Borrowers but the main reason for going was obviously Coronation Street. At that point I was absolutely addicted to it; now I've completely given up on it and haven't watched it for years. As others have mentioned it was the fact that everything was actually two thirds life size but you could never tell when watching it on TV. I remember it cost £15 admission which I thought pretty steep but still worth every penny. I also remember that although the houses were just facades, with the interior scenes filmed in the studio, you could walk round the backs and see where the occasional back alley scene was filmed.
It was actually chucking it down with rain the whole time we were there and they kept us waiting for around half an hour whilst they were finishing filming Des Barnes' funeral!

Can you no longer do the Corrie tour? I know the set has moved but it was still open for visits not that long ago?


I'd also recommend the Emmerdale studio experience in Leeds. It's in a recreation set built especially, which obviously isn't the same but it's all tour guide led and explains how they do the filming, special effects etc. I don't really watch the show (!) buy found it very interesting. You can look around the actual set they use for the outside village bits too.

I went on the tour when I was in Manchester to watch Kiss Me Kate (James Smillie/Kate O’Mara version) and loved it. It was December and in true Manchester fashion it poured down. I remember going around a corner to see a guy dressed as the Grim Reaper having a smoke,
