Newsflash! Tom Hughes can smile! (Blink and you miss it.) And mucho hair floppiness going on @ryan . Well, that was a load of nonsense! But purty nonsense....no, not the Scottish highlands; I'm talking about David Oakes (who, incidentally, did a rather too good impersonation of a German impersonating an Englishman.) Whoever made that CGI palace near the end needs shooting. Ha! Wasn't there? His hair looked super smashing, must have been the Scottish mist. Albert was on fine sassy form though last night, Tom Hughes has really come into his own in this series. He wasn't loving them bagpipes! And loving the gayers too. "Lord Alfred, isn't the scenery sublime?" " Heavenly"

I am seriously tempted to lurk at the stage door after seeing Venus in Fur on Thursday and speak German to David Oakes just to find out how much of his lines he learned parrot-fashion and how much he really speaks. I get a kick out of him and Tom Hughes speaking (and even singing) in German and to generally realize how closely tied our countries once were.

Mr Oakes in the bath. Ernst and Harriet. A bit far-fetched what with the ancient Duchess somehow spotting Drummond and Lord Alfred's relationship AND being ok with it. Did Princess Vicky really nearly die? If so, what a pity they saved her, considering... Christmas spesh on its way!

Found that less far-fetched than Drummond's very convenient end. Which is apparently completely made up, I couldn't find anything about someone being shot over the Corn Laws on wikipedia. I don't mind shows taking liberties with history when it makes for a good story, but the writers of Victoria are pushing it quite a bit.
I continue to be amazed by Ernest and Leopold hanging around London all the time. Didn't they have a minor German duchy and a brand-new country to rule? You'd think Leopold could just pop over from Brussels on the Eurostar.
Still, it was good fun that filled the Poldark-shaped hole in the last weeks. Now the Gunpowder thing with Kit Harington! How I envy you Brits your television...

In real life, Drummond was accidentally shot by Daniel M'Naghten after M'Naghten, who had been having paranoid delusions, mistook him for Peel.
That's a quote from Leo Suter, the actor who played him - so probably true? In which case they merely embellished it somewhat when he saved Peel's life.

Oh. Thanks for that. I just read the wikipedia entry on the Corn Laws, thinking it would mention that someone was killed over it. Should have dug deeper I guess!

Well, that was a veritable feast, what with Tom Hughes and David Oakes marching through the forest carrying their choppers and Mr. Francatelli offering Nancy his pastry brush...

IT'S BAAAAAACCCCKKKK!
24th March. 9PM.
And I really, really, really hope I'm wrong, but it seems as though David Oakes isn't in the cast for series 3.
