Still can't quite believe Blood Brothers has gone.

There were rumours a couple of years ago that Finding Neverland was looking at the Piccadilly for a 2017 opening (with Alfie Boe), after Jersey Boys closed. I assume that plan has since been scrapped?

And yet, Thriller survives.

Finding Neverland I would love to see come in BUT it has to overcome the Weinstien issue.
I fully expect some runs of things like Me and My Girl to do limited runs to fill the gap at some of these theatres, which isn't a bad thing as it means we get more new productions or revivals.

Well I didn't know that and missed that news all together, so thanks.
Must be the way that WhatsonStage prioritise news on their new design, which is crap, as closed shows get hidden at the bottom, even Ballroom is hidden, great news. I wonder how long the refurbishment will take?
9-5 good filier enjoyed it on Broadway, hated the UK tour with the Dolly projection. Love the song 9-5 and Get out and stay out. Good juicy role for 3 lead females?

It certainly does feel like the WE will have a completely new feel very soon. A change is as good as a rest. I just hope we have enough decent material coming in to fill these spots.

Well f***. What the hell is going on with so many shows closing! I imagine Bat will be gone around the same time too, and we don't know how long Come From Away or Waitress will be around for as Waitress hasn't started sales and Come From Away hasn't really started promotion so its not fair to judge their box office quite yet. Jeez. Hamilton and Harry Potter

Jeez. Hamilton and Harry Potter ... and Phantom, Les Mis and Tina. All shows that are selling out at high as hell prices. 😂 But even then, Hamilton for example isn't like it is on Broadway. Yeah it sells, but it still has good availibility for later in the year etc. I think there are fair reasons for some closing. Bat Out of Hell is in a cave and has divided opinion for the show itself. Strictly has a somewhat limited audience and doesn't have a repeat kinda value it seems. Dreamgirls, Motown and Kinky Boots are going out on tour and have had long runs. 42nd Street has had a respectable of about two years with the refurb sending it out on tour as well as the fact it is in a barn. Its not the sales of the other shows, sometimes its just their time to go.

Oh it's brilliant. I'm loving what's happening. It's a shame to see some of these shows go but it's also good the West End is kept fresh and next year will be very different. It's exciting.

I agree, it feels similar to Broadway where closures and openings tend to happen en mass, bringing a new life to the scene. This period is the most excited I’ve been for theatre in a long time, especially as we are getting two of the greatest Broadway shows in CFA and Waitress.

I agree with your thoughts here Tom. While it does have a bit of the changing of the guard feel about it, it’s great that we will get the chance to see some new stuff. At the moment, with all the recent announcements for future shows, 2019 isn’t looking too bad theatre wise, though my bank balance might not be so appreciative. I’m definitely putting in a request for more SOLT vouchers for Christmas to help pay for it all.

I just wish three of the best newer shows weren't closing within a week of eachother.
January will be dark days.

Officer and a Gentleman needs to come in. The West End is a dark place without Emma Williams.

Its not the sales of the other shows, sometimes its just their time to go. Les Mis and Phantom are playing small theatres and not charging £200 a ticket like Hamilton and Harry Potter. So when tourists have shelled out £200 for Hamilton and £400 for Harry Potter each and that could warily be twice that or more if you are a family, you’re unlikely to shell out for anything else. Conversely with so many shows closing, people will just move on to another show that is closing, so could easily boost a show like Thriller, which is losing money, to a show back in the black.

The day Thriller closes should be a permanent 'holiday' on the TheatreBoard, the only show I've ever walked out on at the interval. (I've since seen it the full way through due to it playing at my work on its tour)

Think It was firefingers on here who said it is starting to lose money now, however as I said earlier sadly with the amount of shows closing, tourists could put this show back in the black, by go there instead.

Is the rumoured 9 to 5 production the same as the uk your tour from 5/6 years ago, or would it be a brand new production?

From what I've heard, I believe 9 to 5, unless plans fall through which they still can, will head to the Savoy and begin around March next year following Dreamgirls. It'll certianly be interestingnto see who is cast. I imagine a famous face will be cast for the roles of Violet, Franklin and Roz, with Judy and Doralee (the heavier singing roles) being played by musical theatre actresses, alongside a musical theatre actor to play Joe to round off the lead cast. I love the show so I really hope this does indeed go ahead as planned.

The much touted transfer of Hedwig never materialised, did it?!
I would have thought in these times, it would be more accessible than ever as a piece of theatre.

Unless plans have drastically changed, Mean Girls isn't following Dreamgirls into the Savoy. At some point further down the line, maybe, but not this season. Does the term "season" apply in London? I don't think it does.

It was supposed to happen 5/6 years ago at the Shaftesbury theatre, but didn’t happen because the venue was unsuitable, as the creative team had to excavate underneath the stage, the water table was too high, then it was going to be announced it was going to Broadway and announced its theatre the Broadhurst, but yet again it didn’t happened, the producers couldn’t raise the funds, when a major stakeholder pulled out and then many suits along the way and finally that producers have now lost the rights. This musical has been a smash across Europe.
Obviously you know what - I am talking about Rebecca, which story is quintessentially English, as the book is written by Daphne du Maurer and set in Cornwall. I have always felt this could be a big hit in the West End and do really well, in one of the smaller musical houses.

Frozen to go into the Prince Edward end of 2019. Mary will go in before it until it’s ready. Aladdin isn’t selling.
Mean Girls will go to Savoy after 9 to 5
Les Mis might go to LYRIC! (Pray)
Evan Hanson is rumoured for the Gielgud (depends if Thriller closes)
Drury Lane and Shaftesbury refurb so no shows looking yet.
Moulin Rouge is looking at the Dominion.
Hello Dolly MIGHT do the Collesium for 8 or 12 weeks. Bette was over a few weeks ago looking at theatres (Palladium also).
You heard it here first! Ha.....

Les Mis might go to LYRIC! (Pray) Evan Hanson is rumoured for the Gielgud (depends if Thriller closes Thriller is at the Lyric not the Gielgud, which is the theatre next to The Queens, so do you mean Les Mis at the Gielgud and Hansen at the Lyric?

I mean exactly what I said....
Cameron wants Les Mis to stay on the Avenue.
Dear Evan Hanson will go to the Gielgud and Les Mis will move to the Lyric - only if they can push Thriller out. If not it will mess up those plans.
