Why on earth would anyone think that 9 to 5 was worth putting into a West End theatre? It is one of the weakest shows I have ever seen. Other than the title song, I couldn't remember a single other tune from the piece by the time the curtain fell. It isn't quite as bad as the tour of Tonight's The Night. But it is close. Rubbish... I LOVED IT on Broadway! It certainly had a more talented cast on Broadway than it did here on tour. I found it weak in terms of book, weak in terms of production and weak in terms of score. Admittedly Dolly is not my thing in terms of style of music - but I have a good ear for music and none of that resonated with me in the slightest. If it is going into the West End for some strange reason, it will need big names to generate an audience.

I'd rather we had new shows in the West End rather than shows that have toured already.

Posted this in the 42nd Street thread, but more appropriate here...
So 42nd Street and Chicago both close January 5th (unless a transfer for Chicago), Kinky Boots and Dreamgirls close January 12th.
It’s going to be a quiet month!
What do we think are the chances of Strictly Ballroom, Bat Out of Hell and Motown running much past then?
We already know Drury Lane and The Shaftesbury will be getting big refurbs, Come From Away will open at The Phoenix, that leaves shows yet to be announced for The Adelphi and The Savoy. 2 prime musical houses, with the addition of another in The Piccadilly.

I reckon it’ll be around August or September when we find out the next shows for the Adelphi and Savoy.

From now Baz takes a break as does musical theatre news so we’ll probably get lots of announcements for the Adelphi and Savoy in September time!

Charing Cross theatre will be bringing in a 'Tony award Broadway show' Any ideas? Gentlemen’s Guide maybe if it’s a Tony “winner”. If it’s a nominee - Bright Star, The Visit, A Christmas Story

Definitely says 'winner'
Looking through recent past, only possibilities seem to be 'Gentleman's Guide' or 'Evan Hansen' (very unlikely!)

[br Mary Poppins is going to the Adelphi as I said weeks ago. There was a post somewhere that said this wasn’t so certain now. It was just an overheard train conversation I posted about but didn't seem like they'd have a reason to lie. But that was a couple of weeks ago now and things can change very quickly so could be back on again.

Winner doesn't necessarily mean Best New Musical, just any Tony award (book, score, direction, design all make it a Tony award winning musical). Possibly even the performer catagories could count though that would be a bit of a con.

Violet didn't win any Tony's, i recall?
I find it so interesting at the moment because starting with Fun Home we've now been getting transfers of quite a few Broadway shows but really none of them, i personally at least, expected to come over, or at least not as soon in Come From Away's case. Some quite random ones.
Meanwhile we are still waiting for announcements from the shows that everyone (well not everyone) seems to be going wild about coming over like Waitress, Dear Evan Hansen and so on.

Yeah Violet got plenty of nominations but no wins, so it’s not that. Gentleman’s Guide would fit in nicely, it could be done in quite a compact way. I really enjoyed it on Broadway, surprised it hasn’t come over yet as the piece is British to its core.

And if course we know what's going into The Pheonix, so that starts all this newness off. Definitely a different landscape next year.

It isn't. Or at least, there haven't been any reports of DEH transferring yet.

Nothing is happening until it's formally announced, and things can change at any point up to that moment. But at this moment in time, they've got a venue pencilled and it isn't the DoY. What venue then?

Gielgud maybe? Unless Les Mis has to move there temporarily. The Gielgud would make sense for Les Mis as it’s the most similar in terms of capacity and size to the Queens

Dear Evan Hansen is issued a statement of intent it is coming over, which really is meaningless, as factors change. But saying that I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes into the Queens.
On a different note I saw The Price this afternoon in Bath, with a superb David Suchet at the top of his game, so wonder if this will transfer into one of the smaller circuit theatres? Or maybe has the announcement of All My Sons this week, put it on ice? By which I mean is there room for 2 Arthur Miller plays in the West End?
