Can someone explain to me, as you would a child, in simple terms what is going to happen? And please only if you actually know for yourself

for me Enjolras is one of the most important roles, so i will and cannot book before knowing not liking booking for maybe getting an Enjolras that will be as terrible as Nick Jonas was as Marius Oh I wish you hadn't mentioned Nick Jonas. I still have nightmares.

Whilst I really really appreciate that the ‘names’ they are using to sell this production are bona fide talented MT performers, I can’t help but think that Ball and Fletcher are spectacularly miscast in their roles. Ball is one of my favourite Male MT Perforners but has a natural comedic timing which is wasted on Javert - not saying that Javert isn’t an iconic and complex role, just saying that I think there are better roles for Ball and other actors more suited to playing Javert. Also, the decision to make the temporary (if one can class 4 months as temporary) production a concert production seems cheap and somewhat lazy. Concert productions should be saved for one-offs IMO. Won’t be paying megabucks to see this, although will likely go if there are any offers on.

Quite. I can't understand why they are doing it as a concert for four months. I can understand they might not want to install the original production in another theatre but if they can install the tour production in theatres all round the country for only 3-4 week runs then why on earth can't/won't they install it in a WE theatre for 4 months?

Really miffed theres no DMT+ presale for this, its been worth the membership this year alone to get excellent Mary Poppins tickets but its gonna be a right bun fight in general sale tomorrow! xx I'm fuming lol - I actually joined DMT+ SPECIFICALLY for this year's Les Mis shenanigans! (Though as you say, I also did manage to snap up a decent Mary Poppins ticket. I won't renew next year though I don't think). Dom...As far as i know dmt+ is from 10 am until noon..then general sale...

Does anyone know if telephone bookings will be being taken tomorrow, or is it just online? Have they released a phone number for tickets?

I am definitely more excited about the ticket buying experience than I am about the actual 'concert' lol. #ThrillSeeker
In all seriousness though - I'll be booking a JOJ performance. He was stunning in the 25th tour.

He was stunning in the 25th tour. He and Hans Peter Janssens were the best JvJ/Javert pairing I’ve ever seen. John Owen-Jones is brilliant (and knows it). What a voice yet equally as talented an actor. Amazing nuance when he wants to.

I'm probably going to try for an Alfie show - I agree JOJ (is that as disrespectful as KMP?) is a better Valjean, but I am a bit bored of him now, and have never seen Alfie do the role live. Any more word on a 10am presale?

Impact. They want to re-open the “proper” show with a fanfare, which would be totally lost if they’d been hawking it down the street for four months.

What I think will happen is Alfie will take the usual Monday off as well as both shows on Thursday. He would never take Friday or Saturdays off as they are the most subscribed performances.

But surely JOJ is a big enough MT name that he wouldn’t want to take the usual performances left by the “star”. I know he’s not as big as Alfie B but a lot of people will want to see him, as demonstrated in this thread.

AB should go to the Gielgud Theatre and ask Patti LuPone to give him a masterclass in acting through song and how to knock it out of the park 8 shows a week.

I would assume JOJ will do it unless he’s otherwise engaged. I do hope they have a plan in place because lets face it, the chances of Alfie Boe actually turning up for all of his scheduled performances are slim.

I would imagine that JOJ will act as standby as well as doing his scheduled performances.
I was thinking actually, I’m a little surprised that JOJ is doing this. To my memory he’s never explicitly ruled out playing JVJ again, but given CamMac regularly lauds him as the best Phantom/JVJ and gets him to do all the anniversary specials, it seems a little insulting that he’s now been asked to play second fiddle to Alfie Boe. I won’t deny that Boe will sell more tickets, especially now that he and Ball have their little double act going, but JOJ is far more deserving of legend status among Les Mis casts. Then again, being asked to be a part of this concert production in any way is probably quite an honour, and I think there are very few people who would say no to CamMac.

JOJ (and we've been calling him that long before KMP haha) used to quip he went back to Phantom because he needed some work doing around the house...so maybe he needs an extension or something?
Jokes aside, I'm pretty miffed he's reduced to a standby for la Boe, because JOJ can sing it better on his worst day and actually do a thing called acting, which is you know helpful and all.

I think that's the problem with these concerts - producers are just desperate for household names. No doubt JOJ is a million times better than Boe. But if Cam Mac was worried about the best acting/singing performances, he wouldn't exactly be hiring Matt Lucas. It does frustrate me when producers praise these 'names' as deep down they must know the less famous (more famous in MT circles) do it better. In my opinion it also takes away from the piece. You are watching Alfie Boe, Ball, Lucas being themselves rather than Les Miserables. You don't have that problem at the Queen's currently - you can be totally immersed in the piece! But anyway, Cam Mac marketing machine will turn this into a historic event and I imagine the money will be good for the leads, so not surprised JOJ said yes - who wouldn't want to work part time for decent money in a sold out production!

JOJ (and we've been calling him that long before KMP haha) Haha yes, that was my point - it's been used for a highly regarding musical theatre actor for years, but someone went off their nut for using KMP to refer Katharine McPhee. Anyway, that's not for here.

Yes and no I guess. Their contracts all finish in June/July. So it is different to the situation where something closes early, contracts are cut short and the cast are the last to know! It still would have been the decent thing to do. Of course the contracts finish in July. But letting the cast hear from the papers they are being replaced by an "all star" cast for the concert version is awful. Fair point. I do wonder if any of them will be taken forward into the Gielgud (and if they'd want to) - they will need a large Ensemble from somewhere. And indeed if any of them will be there when the Queen's reopens. Does anyone know what kind of % of the cast usually stay on at cast change in Les Mis?

It's all horses for courses but as someone who really thought the current touring production was amazing, this staged concert thing has zero appeal for me. I don't want to see a celeb driven 'celebration', I want to see a decent version of the actual show with good production values and people who can sing it, dance it, act it the best.

Can't help thinking it's a very different beast from the intense, dark, edgy musical drama of the Barbican days

In case anyone is still wondering about DMT+ members, they just sent me this message on facebook:
"DMT+ members will receive early access to tickets. We're just in the final throws of getting things all ready. A link will be sent to you shortly."

so there are tickets bookable from tomorrow onwards without knowing all of the principal roles? Why not? This happens constantly. Joseph for example hasn't announced a single cast member. At least we know some of them for this!
Indeed, people in other threads are actively in favour of booking opening before cast members are announced, so the "true fans" can get their tickets before the people who clearly can't be true fans because they care who the *actors* are decide they want to buy. Just check the When We Have Sufficiently Tortured Each Other thread. And let's not forget the smugness radiating from the people who booked Girls And Boys before Carey Mulligan was announced. (For clarity, I don't really care if there's casting in place or not as long as I can get an affordable ticket, and there's no such thing as a "true fan" who is somehow more deserving than any other type of fan. )

The 'attraction' was also the feature of the show (ahem, revolve, helicopter etc etc) rather than the star. And what Baemax says, when it suits people booking the show without a name is 'cool' when it doesn't well...

To be honest, I would have thought that the idea of Miss Ball butching it up as Javert would be enough to get anyone booking, whoever else they cast.
