Managed to get a return ticket for tonight and saw an Alfie fan offloading her VIP ticket, worth 200 pounds, for 80. She said it was her birthday treat and her birthday was ruined.
Vinny was on as Enjorlas again and I noticed improvements. His Enjorlas is a quite one like Scott Garnham's used to be but without his quiet authority. I rate Scott's Enjorlas as one of the best I have seen although he was only an understudy.
As for JOJ, what can I say? This man is an absolute wonder. He LIVES the 3 hours on stage as JVJ and posesses an unparalleled natural singing technique to match.
Incidentally, Alfie may be genuinely unwell right now. A friend who went yesterday said he was almost struggling to sing, let alone act, last night. Could this mean JOJ has a chance to play the role on the December 2nd!? Or would they rather postpone the live streaming if Alfie is unwell?

The problem is the show is what category it fits into. Is it a concert, a theatrical production, or some sort of Hybrid. I think it is ultimately the latter which is what is creating issues. The procedure for concerts is clear. You book to see a particular person and you don't expect them to put someone else on instead, you expect them to cancel or reschedule the show and offer you a refund. If this was a Ball & Boe concert where they happened to sing Les Mis songs it would be clear that you wouldn't expect them to be replaced. The procedure (in the UK) for theatrical shows is also clear, you pay to see the show, not a person, and if that person doesn't appear you are still getting to see the show you paid for so shouldn't expect a refund. If this were a normal production of Les Mis, which just happened to have stars as the cast and wasn't sold on the strength of those names it would be clear. The problem here is its both being advertised as Les Mis, as well as Ball, Boe, Fletcher, and Lucas. So it doesn't neatly fit in either place. I would lean more towards saying that it is a Concert Version of something which happens to be a Stage show, so should be treated as such, due to the prominence of the names in advertising and it being called a concert production. But equally, there are scheduled alternate dates, like a full staged version, and its sitting for a long while unlike a true concert. It's a picky point, but its clearly causing heaps of anguish and confusion. There isn't one right solution for everyone, but the current situation isn't working well. This is brilliant summary of the situation. Thank you Sam.... Thanks for explaining it in that way. Everyone is entitled to his/her feelings about seeing understudies and it is an interesting topic to debate. But anyone who says suck it up, you have no right to be unhappy or gutted when someone you like isn’t on is just plain wrong. You have the right to your feelings but seeing an understudy could surprise you on how good or different they are. They could be good and you could enjoy despite being bitter someone isn’t on. One thing is clear...You just shouldn’t go and take it out on the box office and front of house staff. Isn’t their a rule about exchanging at DM and LW theaters? They’ll let you do it for a small change fee if it’s a few days before?

Just noticed it's been rebranded as "The Staged Concert", obviously I know why, but when did that happen?

It had definitely become "The Staged Concert" by 25 June - as they tweeted a picture of a press advert for the old, the new and the concert that day

Oops. Clearly I'm not as observant as I'd like to think then. The pessimist in me assumed it was done to avoid giving refunds for any possible no-shows in the last few performances.

I posted on here about the name change some time ago, and speculated that it was because the production might have a life after the WE run.

Do we tho l there’s a chance this well get released on Blu Ray? Unsure specifically which rumours the person asking was referring to, but at least this confirms there will be a DVD release in the future, and in this day and age, Blu Ray is quite likely.

It's just such a shame that it's not JOJ being preserved digitally forever ☹

Did someone mention Alfie's attendance? 😂
After doing the math- he's missed almost 1/5th of his shows, I'd be pissed too- this isn't a principal/alternate lottery, people've paid specifically to see him...

I'd love it if JOJ ended up doing the live recording and an audience member shouting "Where's Alfie?!" was forever memorialised.

Aren’t tweets like this trolling the situation somewhat? I mean, fair play for being such a stellar alternate (and swing) but he’s certainly not playing anything down is he? I’d be surprised if a few noses weren’t a little out of joint by highlighting this, rather unfortunate statistic quite so explicitly.

I used to follow JOJ on twitter. I didn’t get the impression that he’s a shrinking violet. Good for him, he’s saved the producers necks by being brilliant. Imagine if Alfie’s second had been less than up to it!
I hope JOJ has been rewarded appropriately.

Thank you, ukpuppetboy - I got shot down in flames for mentioning JOJ counting his performances. I'm not denying he's good, he really is, but he really is rubbing it in!

It’s almost uncomfortable but also satisfying reading it, isn’t it?
I’d love to be a fly on the wall backstage.

I saw him in the unmasked workshop at the other palace and they had a bit where all the cast said who they were and why they loved Andrew and or has worked for him. John Owen Jones walked up and said ‘I’m John Owen Jones’ and walked back. Legend.

He does not have to play down anything anyway.

Mmmm, he seriously is not rubbing it in. He does not have to, you know. And to be honest, I don't think he regards Alfie as his rival or is interested in rivalry. Having watched him play JVJ for the last 4 months, I get the impression that he has been concentrating on giving the role his all and nothing else.

He’s just stating a fact really isn’t he. If other people don’t like it than that’s there fault. He should be proud that he has gone over and above what was required of him contractually.
Wish he would have been on the cinema release
