A few thoughts on tonight’s performance -
Firstly, please install some sort of AC in the building, it was really warm both in the bar area and in the auditorium tonight. With this production unlike previous shows, the seating is split into 2 sections within the auditorium and the show is down in between these 2 sections. When you give your name at the box office, you will get a ticket marked X or Y to signify which side of the auditorium you are sat on. There is an entrance for both sides. As a word of warning, there is audience participation here. If you don’t want to get involved with the cast, avoid the front row on both sides.
Considering in my opinion the awful PR video that was done for the show, I was wondering how they would work the show. Thankfully, the show hasn’t deviated from the Jerry Springer format (even Michael Howe has more than a passing resemblance to Springer). As a second preview, this really was in great shape. The vocal talent on display from both the cast and the accompanying choir was first class and mixed with the band (yes, we have more than THAT piano here. A band of 6 - 2 keyboards, reeds, trumpet, bass and drums) sounded fantastic and the sound mixing was spot on for me.
Yes it’s rude and crude for the 2hrs and 20mins run time, but it’s Jerry Springer, so no surprises there. It’s a great night out and everyone (including myself) has a great time tonight. On my way out of the theatre, other patrons were giving it positive reviews. Well worth a watch.

It’s U.S accents then? They haven’t set it in Manc?

It’s U.S accents then? They haven’t set it in Manc? Regards the accents, the cast seemed to try to be U.S. but with mixed results. For the setting, no it wasn’t Manc.

A superb show. The whole ensemble vocally are excellent. You hear one voice and think it is great then you hear another and another. For me Ci Ci Howells as the pole dancer and Eve was the best of a fantastic bunch. Never seen the show before but it was fun if you are broad minded. A great fit for Hope Mill and James Baker has done a brilliant job as usual. Good band under Tom Chester. Sound good, lighting subtle but on point. Hope it does well. Give it a go if you can. The sound of the whole cast singing is epic. Enjoy

I was meant to be seeing this yesterday, having wanted to see the show since I saw the DVD when it came out. I knew there was industrial action this weekend but checked online and at train station and confirmed my train route was still running as normal, then yesterday they cancelled all trains on my route. So frusrating! Not only lost the ticket money but not got another date I'm able to see it!

Even if you don't know or like the Jerry Springer brand, you can sit through this show for the sheer talent on stage. Yes, it's barmy/crude/rude/non PC but for me, that's part of the fun of the show. But the presentation and the performers will knock your socks off. A great revival.

Do we think this has a shot at transferring? I'm hoping I can be lazy and catch it in London rather than trekking to Manchester next week (although I've never been so actually it would probably be really enjoyable!)

It's not actually a Hope Mill production. It's a new company "Northern Ricochet Productions", so I guess it's a matter of them having the resources or an additional producer to transfer it. Give yourself a day out in sunny Manchester!!

🚨🚨🚨INTERVAL WALK OUT 🚨🚨🚨 Absolutely awful. Uh oh! That bad? I was thinking of going tomorrow but still can't decide if I can be bothered. It's a long way from sunny Northamptonshire!

🚨🚨🚨INTERVAL WALK OUT 🚨🚨🚨 Absolutely awful. Uh oh! That bad? I was thinking of going tomorrow but still can't decide if I can be bothered. It's a long way from sunny Northamptonshire! Party of 7 of us. Two of us walked, three loved it, two were underwhelmed but have stayed for act 2. I couldn’t hear the lyrics. There wasn’t a memorable tune in it, apart from “that song”, some of the singing was very good but others were bad, and it looked cheap (that might have been deliberate but sorry, I want professional productions at professional prices to have professional production values). Follow your heart Rob. I think this one is very subjective. You might love it.

I hear murmurs of a transfer... I know it’s simplistic to ask why one show should transfer above another, given the plethora of factors which determine it, but I’m staggered if that’s true. What’s the source of that murmer? It was the worst thing I’ve seen at the HM and my first walk out from there. Partly the material (which i found to be lame, irrelevant and dated.... please tell me were not laughing at trans/gay/lesbian people anymore are we?) and partly the production which looked like it had been thrown together by a school project. The band was good.

I too would be amazed if it transferred - I didn't hate it as much as BurlyBeaR and I'm glad I saw it to tick it off, but equally I can't say I enjoyed it, I wouldn't want to listen to the soundtrack and certainly couldn't sit through it again. I agree that while it may have ruffled feathers in the early 2000s, it feels dated now. The cast did well but the material isn't very strong and the world has moved on a lot in those 15 years (particularly where comedy is concerned). It remains purposefully offensive but doesn't do it with the cleverness or heart of The Book Of Mormon. One for the collection only, I'm afraid.
