Please forgive my ignorance, but can I please clarify: these gigs are at Wembley Stadium aren’t they, not Wembley Arena? We managed to get tickets but are in block 519... I had no idea that the two venues were completely different as I’ve never been to either. Has anyone ever been to a concert at the stadium before? Google tells me that the capacity is 90,000, which is insane for a concert. I won’t see the Girls by the naked eye will I? (I’m still super excited, regardless).
You'll see them, but they will be ants. That's what most people in the stadium will be experiencing though, I wouldn't feel too bad. You're going, which is the main thing!

There’s no such thing as proximity in a stadium unfortunately. Even those in the golden circle have chance to be some distance from the stage (especially if this is recorded in London). But the atmosphere is electric - just wait until you hear 70,000 people singing along to Wannabe.

I have stood for Beyoncé in the front area “golden” etc It was very close and loads of space to rest and sit down even

I was thinking more in terms of the distance between the audience and stage - stadium stages are high, meaning there’s quite the gap between stage and crowd:

Memories! I did Wembley Stadium for Simon and Garfunkel '83 was it? I had better eyesight then 😂😂 we were about half way down a side and half way back, could hardly see them. Bless.

After failing miserably to get tickets on Saturday I’ve just managed to get some for the Thursday night in London. So excited. I know full well they’ll just be dots in the distance from where I’ll be standing but it’s fine. The atmosphere and songs will more than make up for that. And for like £80 each I feel like it’s not that bad a price either.

Set looks amazing for first night of tour at Crowe Park...lot of complaints about sound issues on Twitter, but that might be because of size of venue.Jess Glynne went on about 7.15pm as support.

Following problems in Dublin, masses of complaints about the sound at the Cardiff gig.Seems to be people in the stands who are suffering most.We are doing Coventry on the pitch so fingers crossed.Really gutted for people who are angry and disappointed enough to be demanding refunds.

I saw Madonna in the days when you just turned up and either stood in the pitch area or sat at the sides. We sat - and yes, we could just see her from 5th row about 20 along from the stage. The 700,000 statistic I'd believe, but would guess a fair number were multiple browsers open for a single booking. I remember Madonnas WTG tour at Wembley Stadium & my uncle didn’t get us there til about 6pm!☹️ She was a dot then! For the next tour I got the coach myself and ended up about fifteen metres from the stage. That’d be a £600 gold circle ticket these days. I think those tickets were £15 and £21 respectively! Only really Michael Jackson could match the pop show creativity back in the 80’s and 90’s.

Sound design is not my thing at all.Any tech experts on the board able to explain why there may be such big sound issues in a stadium setting for the Spice Girls?

Sound design is not my thing at all.Any tech experts on the board able to explain why there may be such big sound issues in a stadium setting for the Spice Girls? The main element is that none of the stadia they are playing in are designed primarily or around having anything other than sporting events held in them. It's not just been an issue for The Spice Girls, numerous tours have suffered with it. The problem is, is how you balance it out. You'll notice if you've ever been to a concert in a stadium that there are often towers of speakers towards the 'back' of the pitch. These are referred to as 'delays' and is designed to offset the delay of what you're seeing happen on stage/on a screen and the sound reaching the back of the stadium.
I'd be interested to see a concert at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as I beleive that's been designed from scratch to be fanatasitc for concert accoustics as well as sporting events.
It's a really difficult thing to get right and it really has to do with where you're sitting/standing. Even the Royal Albert Hall really suffered until they put the 'mushrooms' in the roof and even now the sound there isn't great a lot of the time.
Hope this explains a bit? Sorry for the ramble.

My experience of stadium gigs is that the only thing you really see or hear well are the chip scoffing, beer swilling louts in your immediate vicinity. What’s happening on stage is so far removed as to be inconsequential.

Can barely hear it from about 2 metres away Blimey, you can't even tell what song it is at times! I like that they're wearing their Wannabe video outfits, nice touch.

Yes, the only voice that can be clearly heard is the one belonging to the bloke doing the filming (or the bloke standing close by)!

^Nelly, thank you for these comments. It’s a strange one...remember seeing Michael Jackson at the old Wembley and the Capital Summertime Ball with my daughter at the new Wembley and no problems with sound standing on the pitch.Eminem at the new Wembley a few years ago was poor in terms of sound and we were in the stands.

The sound was generally fine at Manchester last night from up in the stands. Which was a mixed blessing - great when playing the hits, not so great when listening to the frankly embarrassingly bad stage banter. At one point it got so pantomimey i wondered if they were going to split the audience into two to see who was the loudest. Also, Mel B needs to stop trying so hard to be outrageous -saying a few swear words just made her look like a toddler trying to shock.
Overall a good concert though, I cant imagine a Spice Girls concert being any better than that from which you can draw your own conclusion! Technically very impressive, particularly the flashing wristbands. My wife, who was much more the target audience, absolutely loved it, as did most of the women around us. Not many men at this one!
Very interesting to note in the BBC article that the sound might be less of an issue that its been made out to be, fueled by the press and social media. Hard to know what to believe really.

The explanation about the stadium acoustics and where the girls stood does make sense. But also remember a couple of the girl's weren't particularly good vocalists, one was good and the other okay and they are all over 20 years older now and some probably haven't sung in a long time.
Also the fanbase is older whilst in the late 1990's they would have just screamed and been excited to see the girls live, now they are probably more reflective and want to listen more.

Just back from the concert and have to say it was amazing. We picked up side stage tickets with a wonderful view for a great price.Sound quality was superb throughout.Heard everything including the banter between the girls which was really funny.Mel B has a potty mouth! Jess Glynne was great and the Ricoh Arena warmed to her.It is not a big venue at all. The dancers in the show were terrific and a lot of the staging had a very theatrical feel to it.One beautiful dance routine on a costume change had a feel of Bourne’s ‘Swan Lake’ about it.Costumes were breathtaking.Audience about 95% women.Quite funny how all the toilets were for the girls and the guys had to use portaloos it seemed. Concert had a very joyous and celebratory feel about it.Some very emotional moments such as ‘Mama’ and ‘Viva Forever’,and the harmonies were strong all night. Mel C anchors the whole thing with her wonderful voice. Have seen some of the great musical legends in the past such as MJ,the Stones,McCartney, etc etc and this was right up there. Really sad for the Dublin and Cardiff fans who have posted videos on YT and all you can hear is a kind of echoing reverb like a constant wall of noise.Terrible! My friend saw the Manchester concert the other night and said the sound was terrific. A five star concert!

Pretty much everything was great tonight in Sunderland - the lighting, the staging, the set, the costumes, the dancers, the dancing. BUT THE SOUND?!? Could.. Not.. Hear... A ...Word... What a let down. The songs sounded better in "Viva Forever" and that's saying something!

Gosh, more sound issues? We were at Coventry in the stands and it was perfect, but it is a small venue compared to some of the venues.Main complaints in Cov were about long queues to get in,over-crowding on the pitch and two hour delays to exit car parks.

Oh, the pitch was way too overcrowded. I've ruled out ever doing standing again at a stadium concert sadly. I worked the Take That concerts at Wembley about 10 years back and there seemed to be plenty of room but tonight was like sardines. I have a feeling the stands may have been the best place to be, because from the pitch standing there was next to no vocals.

Mark,it is a real shame because as you say everything else is terrific. The show itself as a spectacle is incredible, but people who have shelled out a fortune do want to hear the songs and the banter between the girls! It is simply not good enough, imo!

Absolutely! I don't go to many concerts but year before last went to Steps and Celine Dion and the sound was wonderful. I don't know how to describe it tonight other that just one big echo. Just didn't feel in any way loud enough.
