Can I just put it out there, I don't follow football, or any sports for that matter.
Yes, I'm Australian and yet somehow I've managed to survive for 48 years on this earth without partaking in or following any sports.

I met a nice chap once who asked me if I was into watersports.
Was I wearing goggles? Flippers? A wet-suit? About to get in a kayak? Of course not.
The questions some people ask...

Guess what musical the following lyrics come from?
We still believe, we still believe It's coming home, It's coming home, it's coming Football's coming home It's coming home, It's coming home, it's coming Football's coming home Tears for heroes dressed in grey No plans for final day Stay in bed, drift away It could have been all Songs in the street It was nearly complete It was nearly so sweet And now I'm singing three lions on a shirt Jules Rimet still gleaming

Regardless of anyone's view on football, I'd recommend a read of the twitter hashtag GarethSouthgatewould for a wonderful exploration of the qualities the British value in a "good bloke". There are a few offensive/mucky ones along the way but the majority of it is British whimsy at its best!

Given the England match is Saturday afternoon I suspect Saturday matinee would be a good day to watch out for good discounts (eg see the Genesis Inc thread) try TKTS or queue for returns! Or to go shopping anywhere if you can't make it to the theatre! I was on a train and bus during the match last night and they were both blissfully quiet!

I told a friend to make a bet for England before the match but I didn’t bother. Odds shortened of course now. But talking about a bet, I’m really appalled by the gambling ads before the matches and during. I’m an adult and I can assess betting ads but the football is being watched by millions of kids ( out of the 24 million who watched, a few millions must have been under , say 15 and much younger ) . We are usually so over the top when it comes to exposure of children to unsuitable material but I haven’t seen anyone else object to these adverts. Just now I’ve read that Cadbury are not allowed to use an Easter Bunny mini movie to advertise their chocolate because it targets under 15 year olds. Well, I’m not an advocate for Cadbury but really? No Bunny but ok Betfair? Yes, I was appalled seeing an gambling ad just before the match on Tues. A stupid bet offering odds of 4/1 on England scoring in the first 20 minutes. Of course they didn't and as 20 mins and 1 second past I thought of all those thousands of people that had lost a few quid! The bookies must be making a fortune! Offering such short odds on how many corners and penalties etc. etc. I really do not understand the national obsession with football - genuinely why is it the "national" sport? Why not rugby or tennis? The ITV commentators were crying at the end! The poor women who are marrying football mad men on Saturday afternoon! If I saw him checking his phone in the church - the wedding would be off!!

I'm torn really. The England manager seems like a class act and his team seem nice (and not too much like typical footballers) and from what I understand they've done well so it will be nice for them to win for all of that BUT I cannot stand England football fans. If England win they will be unbearable.

If I hear one more person talk about football "coming home" I think I might go full on Trump and start building a wall. Around them.

Colombia - ground down to powder Portugal - Ronaldon't Argentina - came to a Messi end Denmark - couldn't save their own bacon Mexico - decided to stand off Switzerland - a defence like their cheese Japan - even Honda couldn't power them through (S)pain - need I say more?

Remember that this Saturday is also Pride in London day. So there will be a million people in central London for this. With good weather, there will be quite a party going on.

I think I will go to a matinee on Saturday. There's a good chance someone in the audience will be following the match on their phone!!!!!

You can't help but see some coverage of the football at the moment but I have to say that this did make me smile and what a great example to young football fans watching around the world.

Brazilian manager going to lose them the world cup here persisting with Jesus upfront and not Firminho. It's like Serginho all over again

It's like Serginho all over again Never thought I'd ever see Serginho mentioned on a theatreboard ! He was once referred to as a Brontosaurus compared to his other 1982 Brazilian team mates - Zico, Socreates, Eder, Falcao, Junior. The bald goalkeeper Waldir Peres wasn't the best also in what was otherwise a great team.
