Sonia Swaby was one of the biggest West End 'finds' in the 90s - she was a thrilling Nancy in the Palladium Oliver! (her performance in Hey Mr Producer will be forever etched on a lot of our minds), and was also in Cats, Miss Saigon, Fame and several other high profile shows. What ever happened to her? I know she did Oliver! in the late 90s, and then toured with the show for a bit, but then what...? Can't find any information online... Did she retire from the stage and do something else, or is she teaching performing? Seems strange for someone whose star was on the rise to pack it all in. But wouldn't be the first time it's happened I suppose!

She used to understudy Linzi Hately as the Narrator in Joseph in the early 90’s! Not helpful, I know

Met her at a concert back in the day and she was absolutely charming. Haven’t heard of her in anything for a while now though.

That was me. It was Sonia Swabey who had children, and Julie Alanah Brighton ( who was Belle in Beauty And The Beast) who had the lead in La Cava.

Same could be said for Lottie Mayor (now presenting shopping channels!) She started off so well, in Bernadette, well, maybe that wasn't the best start, but then the lead in Whistle Down The Wind and then... nothing major. She had a very pretty voice, but there wasn't much variety in her singing and it was all the same.

To be fair, the problem with Lottie Mayor's performance in Whistle Down the Wind wasn't her singing, which was quite nice. It was her acting. She didn't, at all.

Oh my goodness! I've been looking for you (Sonia) on Spotlight for ages- the times I've wanted to check availability for roles!
I hope you are enjoying teaching- you are a real loss to the acting profession, but I'm sure you a credit to the teaching one!

I treasure your performance as Nancy. It was the first show I ever saw in the West End as a tot, and it changed my life. Glad to hear everything is going well for you!

I can remember seeing Sonia as Nancy about 20 years ago on tour with Gary Wilmott as Fagin. She was great in that role and then heard she'd had a family when she didn't crop up in any roles again. Pity she moved away from the profession, someone said she was a Primary School Teacher now, I've known a fair few performers who have family maybe become vocal coaches or performing arts teachers or do that as a sideline.
One former performer Bobbie Chatt actually works for one of the talent management companies now.
