Manchester cancelled due to “unexpected work commitments to Jesus Christ Superstar - The Live Broadcast” Otherwise known as lack of ticket sales (I was still getting ads for the event yesterday, it's not exactly a large venie to sell!)

Based on reviews his book looks like a “must read” - very gossipy and amusing.

Also that he is hoping to do something to celebrate Joseph and the Amazing technicolour dreamcoat as this year marks it’s 50th!

Glorious evening in the company of ALW and friends. Forgot how much I love his music. My 14 yo was laughing at me fangirling a 70 yr old man He’s so socially awkward though Checking his watch during one of the songs and saying after another song ‘It’s a very difficult song to sing isn’t it’ 😂 Two bits of ‘exclusive’ (well ALW said it was!) news He’s changing the name of the New London theatre to the Gillian Lynne Theatre in honour of her contribution to dance And to celebrate the 50th anni of Joseph they will be producing an all children version this year! He’s not discounting a return of StArlight and a reworked version of Love Never Dies but is keen to start something new which he can’t talk about!

Looks like this is going to be a thing! Nice! It's rare for a theatre to be named after a choreographer, it's usually playwrights or actors. I wonder if we'll ever see Hal Prince get a theatre renamed after him? I think the Majestic or the Broadway Theatre would be suitable

I have never known a theatre to be named after a choreographer and a lady, but there are always firsts and this is well deserved too, nice to name the New London Theatre, where Gillian had tremendous success with Cats. Cannot say I saw this announcement coming.

Oh well that's just smashing. And as a tribute, I shall wear leg warmers to every performance I patronise at the theatre.
In fact, I think it should be a mandatory condition for everyone who attends this theatre. If you don't, you shouldn't be allowed in. Or you're publicly shamed in front of the rest of the audience before each show and made to purr like a cat.

Cannot say I saw this announcement coming. There’s an existing theatre in London named after a woman, there may be more actually but I immediately thought of one. I’ll leave it as a quiz question. I mean a specific named woman, I’m not accepting Queens Theatre etc.

Ashcroft Theatre in Croydon, named after Peggy.
There’s also the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre but that’s out in the sticks in Guildford.

Yes, I was there - really enjoyable evening. My musical highlight was Love Never Dies, with the Lord himself at the keyboard, while my favourite anecdote was probably re Amadeus - it’s in the book! I found the chat really engaging and gree that Graham did a great job of interviewing - keeping things on track with a light touch or gently nudging them forward with a well-placed question but generally just letting ALW talk. Really looking forward to reading the book now.

Thank you. I would love to have been there. But £75 to see a chat and those six songs was never going to be justifiable to my bank account.

Where does the new version of The Beauty Underneath on the Platimun Collection come from? Is this what it’s like in the US Tour?

I’ve just picked this up from the library. I’m enjoying it immensely, even though I’ve only read the (one page-long) Prologue and the very first line of Chapter One entitled Overture and Beginners. From the Prologue I learnt that all Andrew has in common with Wagner is length. And he opens his first chapter with: “Before me there was Mimi.” It’s already promising to be a good, camp romp through to the opening night of Phantom...(I’m not convinced that these memoirs are going to be 100% accurate judging from the photograph of Superstar. It sure ain’t from the original London production of the show although the caption would lead us to believe it is. Sometimes the fans have better memories than a show’s creators...) Edit- this is a bloody good read. He’s a great storyteller. Really...

Thanks, can’t say I thought it was an improvement on the original. Shoehorning the original Phantom theme in seems a bit desperate too.
