Any idea if there will be more venues added? I mean Manchester!! I'm sure they won't miss a city like Manchester out. It's difficult to know what's going to happen in general at the moment, i imagine it won't be starting when it's due to anyway.

Thrilled that we're getting this in Northampton where I volunteer - between this and getting Lucie Jones in Waitress visiting us as well, 2022 is looking bright 😍

Fab performances from the UK Tour cast That's what I was talking about on the WEL-thread. This completely sold it for me, going to get tickets this weekend now.

Nicole is going to smash this tour, hopefully it'll make her a superstar 😁

I’m at opening night on Tuesday! I’m really excited 😆
Is it pretty much like every other night of a show or does anything different happen in the theatre?

In a now deleted timelapse video, the set is extremely scaled back than the West End run. It seems as if there are no crystal curtains, the stage deck isn’t the glossy wood panelling look and there are only two moving light towers with static lights rather than moving heads.
It’s a shame really, but hopefully the lighting boosts the set’s appearance for tour!

I was worried about this show getting swallowed on Liverpool Empire's stage, but with a reduction on the already small set it really doesn't bode well. The lack of set was masked by the clever automation of lighting and the few set elements, so not sure how with less lighting effects available it'll 'boost' it any.

It doesn’t appear to be selling overly well which is a shame, hopefully good word of mouth helps it pick with last minute sales.
A few days where the entire circle isn’t for sale and both Boxing Day shows are no longer on sale, a little concerning as that’s when I had tickets, sure it’ll be fine though

It’s an awfully long tour. Allthe way through to December 22. I hope it’s not going to look frayed around the edges by the time it hits Manc.

The people I know working on this have all said it’s a very scaled back version. Very sad indeed. It’s not like the west end version was that lavish, but at least what was there looked smart.

To be honest as long as the vocals are out of the park, I can live with a minimal set for this one.

It didn't have that much of a set at the Savoy though!! You had to seriously use your imagination to picture all the different locales and timejumps. (mainly illustrated by costume and wigs!)

Only managed to test positive for Covid last night, gutted I can't be there tonight. Been in the queue for ATG's phon number for nearly an hour and still nothing!

To be fair I don't remember the Savoy looking massively different to that! I could be wrong though, I was too busy sitting in awe of Amber. And then Marisha 🤣

Just arrived at my seat for tonight’s performance. Great to see an electronic cast board in the foyer. There isn’t a wide selection of merchandise on sale. As well as the usual house programme (no glossy brochure on sale), a bit of clothing, umbrella, jewellery, make up compact and enamel pin. Crystal curtain replaced by a nice fabric one.

The original Broadway and London productions only ever used 4 lighting towers and a few sparkly curtains for sets. There was a frame that they used for Steppin' To The Bad Side, but it was only used once in the show. I dont think its a show that needs sets because it moves along so quickly. As long as it has excellent lighting and 'that' costume change in Act 2, all is good.

Interval time - brilliant 1st act. Stunning vocals from all. Nicole’s “And I Am Telling You” sensational. A standing ovation at the end. Sonia Friedman came on stage to say a few words at the start. A really slick 1st act without any issues. Great choreography, lighting design and costumes.

So, as my last trip to the theatre for 2021 and the first night of the long awaited Dreamgirls tour and being sat in the Liverpool Empire auditorium tonight with around 2000 people was something special and being able to share that experience with so many others is something I will always be grateful for. The atmosphere was just electric tonight and talking to people from 18-80 both during the interval and while we were leaving the theatre, nobody had a bad word to say about what we had just watched. Everyone was just giving really positive comments about the show. We got through the entire evening without any stoppages or visible issues.
As for the show itself, well Nicole, Natalie and Paige as Effie, Deena and Lorrell were just are joy to listen to and worth the ticket price alone. Sonia Friedman really has got three great ladies here singing those great songs and all three ladies delivered the vocal goods tonight. For the guys, everyone who has heard Dom Hartley-Harris sing will know how good he is and in Dreamgirls he doesn't disappoint. Brandon Lee James as Jimmy was another standout.
Set-wise, I was really happy that the full width and depth of the Empire stage was used to full effect. The lighting design by Hugh Vanstone worked well. the lighting was mounted on sliding panels and with a few desks to signify offices. Choreography was slick for the first show.
I was certainly impressed by the frocks for the three dreams and the Act 2 costume change is still there. In relation to the orchestra, there are 8 musicians and I although I felt at times the sound balance between cast and orchestra wasn't great, as a first night it didn't really stop me from hearing the vocal.
Overall, in my opinion Sonia Friedman was worked her magic again with this show. A wonderful evening and a great way to end the 2021 theatre trips.
