Like @elanor, I'm also going to Scarbados to see The Monstrous Heart (written, incidentally, by the son of David and Elizabeth Emanuel). It's a bit of a trek, but there's no way I was ever going to miss the opportunity to see my very good friend, BurlyBeaR, make his professional stage debut. It was only a few years ago that he wouldn't even pretend to be a tree, but look at him now! I could not be more proud.

No WAY! He's the son of the Emanuels? Really? Wow. I heard one of his radio plays (The Truth About Hawaii) and loved it a year or two ago, and have been following him on Twitter, and he's lovely.
Edit: Wiki says his mum is a drama teacher. I think there may be two Oliver Emanuels.

I've managed 9 shows in a week on a couple of occasions. It's my birthday this Thursday (10/10) so I thought it would be a perfect self-gift / challenge to book and hopefully see 10 musicals in 7 days. Monday - A Slice Of Saturday Night Erith Playhouse Tuesday - Islanders Southwark Playhouse + Grease Bromley Churchill Theatre Wednesday - Lion King Bristol Hippodrome (overnight stay in S.Wales) Thursday - Daddy Long Legs Cirencester Barn Theatre Friday I Love You, You're Perfect London Network Theatre Saturday 42nd Street Staines Magna Carta Arts Centre + Sound Of Music Epsom Playhouse Sunday Gentleman Prefer Blondes London Union Theatre + Singing In The Rain Adelphi (Showtime 48 hours Challenge for Lewy Body Society) I survived a great week with no travel delays and all 10 shows much enjoyed. Top Two definitely Daddy Long Legs and Singing In The Rain but would happily see all 10 again. Three days show-less, now off again. Today - Zombies, London Other Palace Studio Friday - Saucy Jack & Space Vixens, Chesham Youth Centre Saturday - Sweeney Todd Hampton Hill Theatre and Cinderella (original) Grays Thameside Theatre (both amateur) Sunday - Cinderella (Broadway) London Cadogan Hall

I want to be FrontroverPaul. The amount of theatre you see is absolutely brilliant 😀

I'm just making up for lost time with all my theatre trips. Until I was 60 I probably averaged half a dozen musicals a year and my life centred on a very different activity. Since then I've increased my musical theatre going every year and I can honestly say it's what makes me look forward to every day and really enjoy retirement.

Wiki says his mum is a drama teacher. I think there may be two Oliver Emanuels. Sorry, my bad, as the young people say. (Or am I wrong about that too and they've now moved onto something different?) That'll learn me to do my research more thoroughly. Whichever Oliver Emanuel wrote The Monstrous Heart, I wasn't overly impressed, not helped by being surrounded on three sides by students from Scarborough Sixth Form College...with all their sweets, drinks and a whole cucumber!

Yeah, I wasn't thrilled by it either. I get what he was trying to do, but it was all a bit clunky. It was not dull though, which My Beautiful Laundrette was.

What on earth were they doing with a whole cucumber in a theatre...or is it best not to ask?!

For pudding she munched her way, noisily, through a bag of McDonald apple slices. So much plastic for a short, one act play!

Though if it's only a one act play then why anyone needed to eat at all...

One of those slightly fab weeks; Lungs tomorrow, a chat with Peter Brook at the National on Tuesday, all the way into the Ye Olde West Ende for Noises Off on Thursday and back to the NT for The Antipodes on Sat.
Good seating all the way: £60 the lot to you, Madam.

After Cinderella at Cadogan Hall last night, I'll be seeing Don Pasquale at Covent Garden tonight, and the first preview of Mary Poppins on Wednesday.
I'm excited on all accounts!
