I will forever mourn the fact we never got to see Marin Mazzie as Sally. If there had been plans to transfer the Nationals production, she would have been the perfect Sally (alongside someone like Vanessa Williams as Phyllis) Agreed. Her Losing My Mind is just so heartbreaking and understated. She would have been wonderful in the role. I'd actually love to see Donna Murphy as Sally too. She was a fabulous Phyllis from what I've seen, but I can see her nailing Sally too.

Bennett's version is the only one (and first) I've seen live - but it looks like Elaine Stritch and Ann Miller get mentioned a lot as people who've set the bar. Stritch particularly. Eartha Kitt did a fabulous OTT version in the London production at The Shaftesbury Theatre Just came here after scanning through the Sondheim at the BBC prog on iPlayer; which featured Eartha Kitt singing 'Im still here' at an Olivier Awards. Phew! Blew me away. Faster and less laboured than other renditions I've heard, corr, I can imagine she was dynamite live.

Some of the performance is lost through the dodgy tape recording and conversion. It's worth watching the full version on iPlayer 23mins in. Certainly troops Liza Minelli's 80's euro pop TOTP performance of 'Losing my Mind' - which aptly I lost my mind to; and not in a good way.

I was at the last night of Follies at the Shaftesbury and it was electric. Eartha Kitt stopped the show with I’m still here and had to do it twice!! Believe me she knew how to stop the show! Julia. Mackenzie came back as Sally that night and was amazing! I love Imelda but Julia Mackenzie wax softer and absolutely heartbreaking.

I got to see her perform that number in one of her London concerts. The song was released as a single (I think it was in aid of a mental health charity). I tried everywhere to find a copy of it but no shop stocked it so one day I went to the Sony office in Soho to ask about it. They were very nice and actually sent me a copy of the CD in the post for free. I still have it.

I had it on cassette single. I just liked the song and the PSB production on it. Had no idea where it was from at the time.

Imelda was definitely more hard-boiled than Julia, Bernadette kind of went the same route when she did it. They were obviously directed to really send it over the edge and play up the bitterness. Julia had this pathetic, desperate quality that made you ache for her. Stunning.

Loved the production, loved the lyrics and thought "what a star" Liza was - I had vaguely heard of her before, but she just came across as so unique compared to anyone else on the charts in 1989.

Me too. I was fifteen, a huge PSB fan and only knew that Sondheim had written some songs on Barbra’s Broadway Album. Thanks to Liza I went out & bought the Follies CD. And the rest, as they say, was history!!

Sorry to resurrect this thread but is the NT Live version from 2018 available anywhere to view/download? (legally, obviously ). I cant find it on the popular video sharing site although someone said previously it was there.

If you're in London you can probably view it in person at the NT Archive?
