Shoreditch Town Hall's easy for me, provided I make the last Overground which should be easy given it starts at 7.30!
I wasn't surprised at the ticket price, there was always going to be a decent amount of demand given it sounds as if it'll be her only UK show for a year at least and she has a slightly higher profile now. Plus it's not much different to the price of many other concert tickets, and cheaper than paying to see her in anything at a theatre!
I'm considering the ticket a treat to myself to banish the winter blues and am looking forward to it!

It's so annoying that the seats are unallocated

I guess it'll be a bit of a wait in the cold! Hoping the fact I'm going on my own will make it easier for me to find a decent seat! I assume the first few rows will be reserved for whoever bought the VIP Meet & Greet tickets...

Just had an e mail to say that a few more seats have been released for sunday. Looks like they are in the balcony.

Well if I'd have known Leslie Odom Jr. was gonna turn up and sing Dear Theodosia I would have paid that £42!

Ha that was a nice surprise. A great evening all round. A few mildly irritated people as she didn't do 'I'm Here', I'm sure, but then considering her vocals on the songs she did sing, they can't be too annoyed. All in all a very lovely evening.
Shame about the venue messing up on tickets, the queue and the start time... I was in nice and early, but from what I could make out they gave up issuing tickets and were just letting people in if they showed their confirmation email?

What a wonderful evening! I also queued early and ended up a couple of rows behind Leslie Odom Jr which was a nice surprise! I saw Cynthia's other half Dean John Wilson livestreaming the concert a few rows in front of me, so I presume it's online somewhere for people to watch if they missed it?
Yes, the venue could have been a bit more organised, but anyone who thought it was actually going to begin on time was kidding themselves, concerts never do! And she was more than worth the wait (and the ticket price), a vocal masterclass and a truly uplifting evening. The fact that she ended by improvising the music and lyrics for an encore completely off the cuff and a cappella just about sums up the level of her talent - so glad I was there.

[b Already a video on you tube of the duet. Looks like it was filmed from the balcony.

That was an amazing evening. Her voice is so beautiful. Good mix of songs too and she did one of my favourites "God bless the child". I was really surprised how young the audience was. Loved the venue as well, lived in London for so long and it was my first time there.

I was glad she did God Bless the Child as well - I thought she might do I Won't Complain and The Impossible Dream and I wasn't disappointed!
I Will Always Love You was a wonderful surprise - she really is a powerhouse!
And she was lovely afterwards as well - managed to speak to her briefly to say thank you before she headed off to celebrate with her loved ones.

I loved every single moment of the concert (although I was drenched and had to peel off my jacket and my shirt, because they were soaking). It was worth the 8.5 bus ride from Edinburgh ad 1.5 hours of queuing before the door opened.
I saw people mentioning VIP and Meet and Greet tickets - when were they being sold? I got mine general admission early in the morning when they went on sale and I didn't see any VIP tickets
(yay! my first post!)

The meet and greet tkts were restricted to 25 and they sold out immediately. You must be very dedicated to do such a long bus journey. I was amazed how good natured everyone was considering how wet they were. I'm in such a bad mood when I get wet. Did you get a programme?

There wasn't really anything in the programme (no song list, which in a way I'm glad of as it was nice not knowing what she was going to sing next and just listening to her introduce each song!), but Cynthia kindly signed mine so I'm keeping it now!
I bought my tickets pretty quickly as well and didn't see any meet and greet, so they must have been snapped up in seconds!
I'm still on a high from Sunday, it was such a lovely evening - sad that the US is getting her back now! Hopefully she comes back to do a show in the West End maybe next year - The Last Five Years or Aida please!

I hope that anyone lucky enough to get the meet and greet tickets enjoyed themselves! I've listened to "The Color Purple" multiple times and when I read that Cynthia will do a concert in London I thought "Why not?" and quickly arranged travel and accommodation. I'm really happy I did it. It's the closest to Broadway I've ever been As for the journey, it sounds worse than it actually was. Not much legroom, but when I arrived at Victoria Station I didn't remember any of it. Yes, I got the programme as I was leaving the venue.

I thought as much given she was talking about her concert a couple of weeks ago being her last (in the UK at least) for a long time. She's also doing a concert at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC in September - the US National Symphony Orchestra opening gala concert. Can't blame her for taking all the opportunities winning a Tony has afforded her though, looking forward to both films she's doing!

Wonder if she got that off the back of the Grammys performance, which seems to have been universally praised (for what it's worth I thought both she and Legend sounded terrific, and the full recording is even better)?
She said in a Q&A earlier in the week that she's in talks about a couple of plays in the UK towards the end of this year/early next but nothing definite at the minute. She said she'll be back if the right opportunity comes along, which I guess is fair enough given how marketable she clearly now is in the US!

Would be great to see her do a straight play actually. What play would you like to see her in? Something that would challenge her as an actress, something new.

I mean I don't know whether you started out this post sober & got progressively drunk during it but I am loving your work! I was reading up on this (Playbill, I think it was) and it explained that, alas, neither the show itself or Cynthia are actually nominated. If they win, the award will go to the programme that hosted the performance, in this case, The Today Show: www.playbill.com/article/the-color-purple-performance-on-the-today-show-led-by-cynthia-erivo-receives-daytime-emmy-nomination

Oh what a load of bullsh*t, clearly the strength of that performance lies in the performers and not the program itself. The Today Show didn't do anything special, the performers did.

Eh I mean I don't think Cynthia or the cast are necessarily deserving of Emmys just because they performed a song well on a TV show. If the show had been adapted as a TV miniseries or something and she had played the role then sure.
Seems like a silly category in general but I guess The Today Show are the ones that chose them to perform and probably had a say in which song they did, how it was staged etc.

My goodness, I wish this woman would stay off Twitter.
She's now openly tweeting about specific roles that she wants that have reportedly already been offered to other people. I mean I admire the determination, but there are less embarrassing and desperate ways to do this, like sending a request through your agent or sending a personal letter to filmmakers.
The latest is she wants the role of Nala in the 'live action' adaptation of The Lion King which reportedly has already been offered to Beyonce. Beyonce infamously has the most rabid fanbase in music and so now obviously they're coming after Cynthia, saying no it's not going to an unknown. And then Cynthia is responding by bragging about the awards that she has won and calling them 'pressed'. She also said Beyonce was 12 years older than her before saying she was mistaken. Would she really have believed Beyonce was 42?
I just don't get it. She's doing extremely well for herself. She's been in America just over a year and has already won a Tony and a Grammy. She's nabbed herself numerous movie roles, including in a Steve McQueen movie. But yet it seems to me she's willing to risk it all by coming across completely unprofessional via Twitter. Maybe others think differently, but it really alienates me as a fan of her work.
