There will no doubt be endless speculation as to who is cast in the tour now. The West End cast will take some matching. I thought all the performances were excellent. It will need some "names" to sell on tour I would think.

An Officer and a Gentleman. Is that confirmed? No it's me wishful thinking 😂 Sorry. EDIT: Apologies showtoons, I thought you were referring to my Blazing Saddles comment.

Sting was on the telly the other day talking about Last Ship and they're wanting to bring it in to town and actively seeking a venue - 600 odd seat theatre would be about perfect I'd think!

Didn’t think this would have closed so soon, thought it would’ve had another year.
The Garrick proves once again to be a graveyard for musicals despite being one of the best positioned theatre in the West End.

The Garrick isn't really suited for musicals, it's a playhouse and plays tend to work better there.

I'm sad to see it closing, but I'm glad it starts and ends with the majority of the original cast! Hopefully will catch it once more.

With or without Richard Fleeshman though? Sadiq Khan said he was going to start clamping down on guns in London.

A bit gutted this is closing. Saw it twice and loved it so I'm glad it's going out on tour!

The Garrick isn't really suited for musicals, it's a playhouse and plays tend to work better there. But the audience don’t know that when they purchase their tickets, they just go and buy a ticket for the show they want to see, regardless if it is suited for musicals or plays. The theatre looks glorious from the outside and must have the best footfall in London, also it is adjacent to the TKT’s. So still baffling why so many musicals fail there. Wonder if this will go back to doing plays, or something like Come From Away, Waitress, Dear Evan Hansen or Anastasia will go in there?

The musical has had a great run, it certainly has not failed.

If it doesn't "feel" right, they won't go again - and musicals in particular rely on repeat visits. That's why Mackintosh, ALW etc spend so much time finding the "right" theatre for a show, and I think many of us on here know when we've seen something in the "wrong" venue, for sure. Young Frankenstein got 5 Star reviews, it wouldn’t got these if the show didn’t feel right. The Wyndham and Gielgud are the perfect definition of a Playhouse, yet Avenue Q played there well. The Apollo is another perfect Playhouse, Jamie looks glorious there. I do agree certain musicals play better in a big house and others are more comfortable in a smaller theatre.

This is true and it’s noticeable when a show moves theatre, Mamma Mia! for example suited the Prince of Wales but lost something when it moved to the Novello.

The Apollo is another perfect Playhouse, Jamie looks glorious there. The Apollo was built as an opera house, though, which explains that one. Shows either fit or don't fit a theatre, regardless of genre, I think. The Palace Theatre was built to be an opera house, however that is hosting a play now and for the foreseeable future.

The problem with YF is that it is funny, but it thinks it’s funnier than it is. The cast is sensational but the material is mediocre. Plus i think It looks cheap. It’s not a huge theater and it’s not a small cast so it really needed to rely on full price and premium tickets, and that isn’t the reality for many people and barring Hamilton and Wicked in the first few years, most shows offer some sort of discount or coupon code.
I think the economics of theater make it hard for most shows to have lengthy runs.

A musical will go into the Garrick and will do really well eventually. I don’t really buy the case it is a poor house for musicals, I think it is a poor house per se, with poor sight lines and uncomfortable seating.
it is a far from nice theatre to see a play, unlike the Wyndham, which for me is the perfect place to catch a play.
I noted this has had long run in the past of No Sex, We’re British, An Inspector Calls and Deathtrap, that can all play with a far from sold out house on half price tickets. So for a theatre presenting plays seems to give it a false kudos.
Idea for a thread here.

Yes, the cheap seats at the Garrick are awful. I think the tolerance for sitting behind a pilar and paying a lot for it is low. Harold Pinter Theatre has the same problems.

I've just booked for Friday. Offered stalls and dress for £15 so chose dress as sat in stalls last time. Back row of dress centre but it's only 5 rows deep so it's going to be good. Absolute bargain.

Also £25 for what are often the premium rows in the stalls, so I've finally booked to see this (the £15 tickets looked a bit far back for the dates I had free).

Well it was fun. Great seat in dress for £15. Didn't enjoy it as much as the first time as 2nd time round you know what's coming up. The only original lead cast member tonight was Lesley Joseph. I presume the others have either left or on holiday. But it was a fun evening all the same.

Igor and the Monster have changed since the original cast but the other principals are still there. Hadley is on holiday this week, not sure about the others.
I'm seeing it today for probably the last time.

I'm seeing it today for probably the last time. Yes I knew that Ross Noble and the monster had gone and also read in the thread about Hadley but not sure why Ms Strallen was not on. Have to say that they did a good job, I didn't know the understudies but they performed well. Most of the people sitting around me were more Mel Brooks and the film fans rather than MT fans so it would have made no difference to them who was on.
