Anyone else seen Joe’s post on instagram - “I may not have won the glitter ball, but I’ve won something a million times more special” - a picture of him and Dianne. It sounds awfully cynical of me but part of me wonders if it’s all to get back some of the limelight and exposure that he didn’t get from not winning. The whole caption is worded in a way that would cause so much speculation and attention.

I thought the opposite about Joe - it seemed a far classier move to 'announce' they're dating or whatever (which I assume that means) post the show rather than during. And good luck to them, they seem sweet and ahem, they were both single going into it....

It has been clear for some time that Joe and Dianne became very close as a result of their time together. You only had to watch his vlogs to see this.
As far as I am aware, neither of them were in relationships at the start of this process - and so if they have found happiness with one another, that is great.
The timing doesn't strike me as cynical. They consistently avoided talking about their friendship/relationship in media interviews - their focus being on dance and the show. That seems the right way to play it. It isn't Love Island!

The show can only be as good as the contestants and this year's crop wasn't vintage.
If Shirley and say Tess were ditched it could cause an outcry especially if they were for younger replacements. Shirley may know her stuff but doesn't have the TV experience that the other judges have and this shows. Anton should have been made Head Judge when Len retired, it kept the judging panel dynamic the same and he'd have been funny with Bruno and Craig.
Shirley might have been better being used as an expert on It Takes Two in hindsight.
Dropping Craig or Bruno or Darcy would be hard. Craig especially might speak out and Bruno everyone would feel sorry for. Darcy is hugely respected too so would be hard to justify replacing.
From the Dancers I think Anton needs to be given another role as in the group dances he looked out of place - one week the judges were in the routine and he was next to them and looked more their age than the other dancers.
I think sadly Kevin msy leave, Neil with the Seanngate thing might also go mutually plus he never had a pro partner, Johannes can move up. The rest I'd assume would be resigned.
With the girls after the Seann incident might Katya be in jeopardy, I hope not. Karen can be irritating but I think they'd want her to stay another year at least, Jeanette would only go if she wanted to start a family. Oti is doing the new BBC dancing show but I'd figure she'll be back. Luba can take a partner next year if one girl leaves or they have an extra male celeb and they the add another girl pro.

Being honest I haven’t even been watching Strictly this year so probably if I actually had I would see the closeness and chemistry between Joe and Dianne. Really I was just thinking would it take away Stacey’s “moment” but I guess you’re both right that by announcing it the following day they did let Stacey have her moment.

They "announced" it as the tabloids had photos of them all over each other on Saturday night.
....and again, its NOT a dance contest, its an entertainment show that has dancing as the central focus.

Also it doesn't strike me as if Stacey is bothered either way about having her 'moment' or indeed even winning that much...just the exposure on the show and the 'for a laugh' element seemed to be why she was there.
And yes, I think Joe's putting it on Instagram, without being too blatant was a nice way to counter whatever the tabloids had planned.

I enjoyed this series. It wasn't, it's true, a vintage series where there was a well-known celebrity who made you look at them in an entirely new light (Ed Balls, for example) or new potential heart throbs (Harry Judd, Danny Mac, et al) but there were some lovely dances (Joe's first dance, his jive, was a really pleasant surprise; pretty much everything Faye did, Charles' street dance and his Samba.) When Stacey did her Minion dance, she said she hoped children at home would like it and I thought, yeah, they'd love it. It is the sort of show where generations can all sit around watching and discussing it - and there aren't tonnes of those out there. The values of the show are largely very positive: whatever level you are, if you put in the time and work hard, you can improve, etc. One reason why I couldn't begrudge Stacey her win is that I think she is a really positive role model for young girls.
Interesting to hear who other people want to go and who to stay - and it shows you how individual these things are, as my choices would be very different. I think Anton should gracefully retire and not be on the judging panel or It Takes Two. I really admire the other pros who try to show their celebrities off in the best possible light whereas he turns them into jokes and makes it all about him (making very clear they have messed up and trying to be funny, etc.) - he is by far my least favourite pro and has been so for a long time. I don't mind Shirley - and her styling is so much better this year than last. I like Claudia and have a soft spot for Tess, despite her awkwardness. I really like Karen, Oti and Katya and would be sad for any of them to go.
I think the idea of dancing in more locations could be fun. There must be some other famous ballrooms and other cities in Britain that could do with a little tourist bump.

I really like that idea of showcasing other ballrooms/cities. Strictly has done a lot to encourage interest in Ballroom and Latin dancing and there is a real opportunity to showcase dancing communities around the country.
I do love the showbiz/theatrical element to the show, but sometimes I feel that it over takes proceeding. Those pro numbers from the first few seasons had no props or major narratives, just 100% amazing dancing, and you couldn't take your eyes off it.
My hopes were high for Shirley but after 2 years I'm not warming to her. I feel like I dismiss her comments, despite her obvious expertise, as she comes across to me as a little frustrated or bitter and seems to judge a little too subjectivity, I never feel she is as impartial as she should be, being head judge.
But I'm looking forward to the Irish Dancing with the Stars in a few weeks, it's a lot of fun, and there never seems to be drama ( as of yet, its only series 3 ) and during 'Irish week ' the pros get together with Riverdance and do a fantastic group number. It's a highlight!

I don't think Strictly would have the budget to do a whole series of extended outside broadcasts along the lines being suggested. You could run a separate series that was Dancing in the Regions - but I don't think it would be a live event.
Blackpool only exists as an element in the current format because of the need for studio space for Children in Need.

My friend was asking m3 who Tess Daly actually was the other day so I took the trouble to do a bit of judicious googling. Here are some fun facts about Tess. Firstly, the woman is 49. Seriously I would not have out her past 40. Secondly, she was a close friend of Quentin Crisp. Thirdly she is a germ phobic, which is rather at odds with her friendship with Quentin considering his views on cleaning. You live, you learn.

Do we think Chris Evans was being serious when he announced himself as one of the 2019 celebrities? Perhaps he thought if he announced it first, then the BBC, despite him being a rival by that stage, would have no choice.
I know he's raised millions for Children in Need over the years, but he's never really been my cup of tea. At least I know who he is!

Yes it seems likely , also Alan Carr has been approached.
I cannot believe she is 49! I want what she's on. Claudia will be 47 in January.

If Alan Carr does it then I won't be able to bring myself to watch it - few people get on my nerves more than he does.
I don't like Chris Evans either but I could just about bear him enough to watch, although given I pretty much gave up on this year's series half way through because it was so lacklustre and so removed from when this show was actually good, I don't hold out much hope for next year's anyway...

Chris /Kris Evans the actor, American footballer, or former porn star turned body builder would all be far more interesting additions to Strictly than boring old Chris Evans, failed Top Gear presenter.

Delia Smith. Don’t ask how I know.... At 77 that would be a bold move. And the potential for cookery related puns would return. They weren't funny with Ainsley, they will be less so now.

Delia Smith. Don’t ask how I know.... Presumably Mary Berry said no!

If Mary had said no, Prue Leith would have been available!
Though probably best not to invite Paul Hollywood - given the Strictly curse and his personal track record

Another joke? O let's laugh at the middle aged woman, shall we? I hope I’m wrong but that is what this looks like.

Awful what happened to AJ and his brother Curtis, attacked outside a nightclub. Curtis will now miss, at the very least, the first couple of weeks of Dancing with Stars Ireland, and doesn't AJ have a solo tour lined up? Their poor parents, having this happen to both sons. Scary world sometimes.

Scary world sometimes. Absolutely horrific - some people really are scrum, I hope they are all caught and suitably punished! AJ's own tour is later next year but he is due to start rehearsals with Lauren for the Strictly live tour presumably next week. And Curtis has to have surgery, which doesn't bode well for him getting back to DWTS at all this series!

For those who loved a bit of Pasha of a Saturday night, get the Kleenex out . . .

I've just read this, Pasha I always thought was an amazing choreographer and possibly the best male dancer so he'll be a big loss. It could change the dynamic of the show especially if Kevin decides to leave too as he has strongly hinted. I'd say the odds of Anton getting another year have increased strongly.
Johannes moving up to have a female celeb partner will surely happen. Neil Jones has been around the show for 3 seasons but only in group dances so might he get a promotion too if Kevin did decide to leave. But after the Seann - Katya issues there must be a question mark over whether Mr and Mrs Jones return.
I don't know who else may be thinking of moving on or might be out of favour as with Pasha gone and Kevin unlikely to return IMO they will have likely lost a couple of popular dancers.
They have Johannes, Luba and Neil in reserve so a couple of them can step up and I'm sure there are lots of good pros who have the technical ability and are potential eye candy for whichever way we swing to step into make up the numbers.

Yes, I am sure that Pasha leaving will certainly change the character of the show. It was noticeable that in the group dances he often took the lead, whether for contractual reasons or just because he was the best dancer was not clear, but his talent as both a dancer and as a choreographer will indeed be missed.
