They've postponed the opening and press night for a month. Shocker. Apparently cast illness has been part of the problems with the show during the rehearsal process. Yeah, right.

Have they actually postponed the move to the Ambassadors, or just the press night? I saw what Mark Shenton posted on X and it looks like the latter (now proposed for 10 Jan). Tickets still on sale from 30 Nov. Could this be a West End show that closes before it actually 'opens'?

Still opening for previews this week. The signage went up on the theatre yesterday.
I wonder if press night will ever happen if the scathing audience reviews keep rolling in.

How can they justify charging people to see something which they’re now acknowledging is nowhere near fit for the press?

I'm more shocked that it hasn't improved at least a bit.
It may never be excellent, but surely there is a lot that can change.

Could this be a West End show that closes before it actually 'opens'? It's a very smart move. The critics will be annoyed that it's mostly jump scares without a story, and this way, they can just avoid bad press and sell off the Catherine Tate (Dr Who) and David Threlfall (Shameless) names. I'm more shocked that it hasn't improved at least a bit. It may never be excellent, but surely there is a lot that can change. To improve the story (I don't think they'll bother), they could do the following. . . Some spoilers follow. . . (1) Reveal Threlfall's character's motivation from the start, for sneaking off to Enfield without his partner, rather than allow the audience to speculate that he may be a paedophile for most of the running, just trying to get a moment alone with the kids; (2) Have another character (the older daughter suits) discover what he's up to and aid him in his quest. This would allow empathetic audience build up for what he's up to and allow Threlfall to get the audience onside; (3) Have the Threllfall story impact the main story (The Enfield Haunting, which story does not advance one inch as is) a little bit, so that Catherine Tate's character ends up a little closer to dealing with her demons by the end of the plĂ y. In all honesty, I don't see this happening, as there's little time, and the critics are already sidelined.

Once again cancelled for the "technical requirements of the production".

Similarly becoming fascinated by this (and considering I hadn't even remotely considered seeing it I feel I might have to now!)

The scenes at Shenton Towers when one of those dastardly bloggers gives this a rave review and gets their quote on the marquee!

“The Show of the Year!” All That Dazzles
I’m actually almost intrigued to see it- cannot remember such bad of word mouth about a show… ever? But then I don’t want to waste any money or my time.

I hope this does well (although I'm not optimistic at all) and one of the reasons is that Grace Molony deserves a West End break, after her run in The Watsons was pulled so cruelly because of covid, seemingly permanently.

I'm guessing it isn't as the first performance showing on the ATG site is the 7:30pm performance tomorrow that's sold out, nothing for tonight or a matinee tomorrow. Along with comments on the X post with people saying they been informed via TodayTix they're ticket for tonight has been cancelled.
However the ATG page is still showing tonight as opening night.

Per their social, tonight and tomorrow matinee cancelled due to “technical issues”, tomorrow evening going on. Fascinated by this entire debacle.

Oh to be a fly on the wall. "Cast illness", "Technical issues" ....I bet they are all stressed out of their minds. Feel sorry for them. They'd have been better cancelling the tour and honing the script.

I really don't understand why Catherine Tate knowing she was going to be in one of the biggest TV shows of the year thought this script was a good idea

How can they justify charging people to see something which they’re now acknowledging is nowhere near fit for the press? I had the misfortune to see this production in Richmond and I could tell there was something badly wrong only a few minutes in - leaden dialogue, aimless chit-chat, a character who's just a spare part... Yet the prices at both Richmond and Brighton were bumped up to premium. The "plot" (such as it is) is minimal, the "scares" are few and far between - and if the audience is *laughing* at the supposedly-scary bits, that should be a clue to how badly put-together this production is. The set is two-storey, but it was virtually impossible to see clearly what was going on upstairs from the middle of the stalls. I'd not read any reviews prior to my visit to Richmond but I remained in my seat in the interval and found the many, many reviews for the Brighton run - a couple of glowing reviews (which had been bumped to the front page) but the rest were utterly scathing, and entirely accurate. A number of people didn't return after the interval - I decided to stay in the hope that it might improve. Nope. Catherine Tate got a few laughs for some out-of-kilter-with-act-one comedy - but it was dire. It's the script. It's abysmal. The cast know it's abysmal - their faces at the curtain call, my God. They looked (rightly) mortified. You can rehearse as much as you like, but if the material is very poor, there's only so much you can do with it. Press night has been delayed by over a month - astonishing. I fail to see how this can be redeemed without junking the script entirely and getting in a competent playwright. The reviews I've read online are totally honest and accurate (from what I saw myself) and the people leaving these reviews are seasoned and articulate theatregoers, so they know what they're talking about. I really feel for the cast and crew - this is an absolute turkey.
